Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  After a spirited argument that extended over a period of 10 weeks the contest instituted by the Syracuse Journal to determine the most popular saleswoman in central New York came to a close Monday evening last.  Ten prizes were awarded, the first prize, a grand piano, being presented to Miss Mamie Sullivan, with Dey Brothers & Co., of Syracuse, who received 81, 360 votes.  Eighth on the list of prize winners and the only one outside of the city of Syracuse to win a prize was Miss Mary Griffin, of this village, who received 3,965 votes and was presented with a seal gold ring.  Tuesday's Evening Journal printed pictures of the prize winners and ventured to say "that a prettier bunch of femininity it would be difficult to gather.":

Miss Griffin is a native of Norwich and has been for several years in the large department store of the Chapman & Turner Company, of this village.  She is held in the highest esteem by all who know her and is receiving numerous congratulations on her success in the contest, though many friends would have been pleased to have her win a higher prize.
