Mary A. Greene

Died June 21, 1940, Norwich, NY

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  Miss Mary A. Greene, a resident of the Chenango Valley home here for the last six years, died suddenly Friday at the Home.  Thursday night she attended a meeting of the Chenango Valley King's Daughters held at the Home and appeared to be in her usual health.  Her death was a shock to all.  Miss Greene was born in Mt. Upton [Chenango Co., NY]. Oct. 7, 1856, the daughter of Nelson N. and Alexiewna Place Greene. She was a member of the Methodist church.  Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the George J. Devine Funeral home.  The Rev. George B Callender, pastor of the Broad Street Methodist church, will officiate. burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery at White Store in the family plot.

Edna P. Green

Died February 13, Rockwells Mills, NY  

Mrs. Edna P. Green died at the home of her son, Floyd B. Green, Rockwells Mills, at 10:45 Tuesday morning aged 86 years.  she was the widow of Luzerne Green, Norwich mail carrier for many years.  There survive the son above mentioned, three grandchildren, Llewellyn Green of Norwich, Edna Jane Green and Richard A. Green of Rockwells Mills, also one great-grandchild, Doris Ann Green of Norwich.  Funeral services will be held at the Breese Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday with burial in Mt. Hope [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].

Matie Perry Greene

Died February 22, 1940, Utica, NY

Again this community was saddened when news came that Matie Greene had gone.  All her neighbors and friends were looking forward to her return to her home in the spring, but her Heavenly father knew best.  Mrs. Greene was born in Binghamton [Broome Co., NY], December 1, 1865, daughter of Dennison and RoeWena Barre Perry.\,  coming to Chenango county when a child where her life has been spent.  She was united in marriage to Nelson P. Greene August 1, 1885. To them was born one daughter, Pearl, who has always been a great comfort to her.  Mr. and Mrs. Greene celebrated their golden wedding August 1, 1935 at the home of their daughter, Mrs. L. Burdick.  After Mr. Greene's death July 29, 1939, Mrs. Greene remained in the home she loved so well, for a while; but owing to poor health, she went to the home of her daughter in Utica for the winter months, planning to come back to her home in the spring.  But she failed rapidly and passed away February  22, 1940, at 10:30 p.m.  The death of Mrs. Greene removes a highly respected citizen. She was a member of the fortnightly Study Club for a number of years. Always active in church work until overtaken by poor health. She was a kind friend and neighbor and will be sadly missed by all.  Her only brother, Charles W. Perry, died a few years ago, was a great sorrow to her.  Immediate survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Leon Burdick of Utica, granddaughter, Miss Dorotha Burdick of Amsterdam; a nephew, Dr. Herbert A. Perry, of Medical Lake, Washington; cousins, W.W. Barre, of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Jennie Scannell and Fred Howe, of Tully, N.Y.  Her funeral was held Monday, February 26, 1940, at 2 p.m., from the home in South New Berlin, and was largely attended. Rev. C.H. Skinner, pastor of South New Berlin Baptist church, spoke words of comfort' Albert Almstedt sang two beautiful solos, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."  The bearers were her neighbors and friends, Merton Camp, Lewis Robinson, Richard Stevens, Charles Shaw, Lewis Sheff, Edward Hile.  Peacefully she lay in her beautiful bed surrounded by the lovely flowers she loved so well.  Mrs. Greene was tenderly cared for by her daughter and husband; everything being done for her that human hands could do. She will be missed in that home. She was laid to rest beside her husband in Evergreen cemetery, White Store.

In Smyrna [Chenango Co., NY], on the 6th inst., Mrs. Lucy Ackley, widow of Samuel Ackley, aged 85 years.
