Ah! where's my pretty blossom gone, / In which my heart delighted; / My little bud, was scarcely blown, / Ere cruel winds it blighted.
I saw it droop its little head, / I saw its beauties languish, / I saw its tints begin to fade, / Which filled my heart with anguish.
I still had hopes it would revive, / And all its charms recover, / Until I saw the foe arrive, / It from my heart to sever.
O earth, thy charms yield no relief / To this poor aching bosom; / In pensive sighs I'll vent my grief; / For thee, my absent blossom.
O father! mother! cease to mourn, / Look up to this bright bower, / Behold what beauties now adorn / Thy once poor dying flower.

A Story of Crime: The Norwich papers give detailed accounts of the murder of a daughter of James Heady, of that town [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], about 16 years of age, by a woman named Monroe, residing in Houston, Texas. The girl was taken thither by the woman's husband (who was in this vicinity on a visit) last Spring. Heady expected to follow them soon, to reside there, being urged to do so by Monroe, who was a relative. Hearing of the girl's death Heady instituted inquiries which led to the arrest of the woman and her conviction of murder in the 2d degree. The cause of the murder is a mystery.
