Fatal Accident: On Saturday last, a fatal accident happened two miles north of this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the canal boat D.J. Millard. A little girl of Capt. Rob't Hart, of Utica [Oneida Co., NY], was to play on the boat and fell down the hatchway breaking her neck.
A Sad Sight: A raving lunatic was taken to Utica [Oneida Co., NY] for treatment in the Asylum. He was formerly a soldier, a member of the Forty-first regiment. His name is George W. Basseett. He was one of the Andersonville prisoners, and the terrible privations which he then suffered so shattered his constitution that he never fully recovered and was finally reduced to his present pitiable condition. The phantom which seemed to possess his mind was a Hell, to which he himself and everybody around him were hastening. Doubtless the fearful scenes of that death pen at Andersonville had been seared into his brain as with a red-hot iron, till all else is burned out but that one terrible thing which is now within him a living horror, a burning, fearful Hell.
