Mr. Hyde was long a resident of Pharsalia, was eight years a Justice of the Peace, and the last two years supervisor of that town. He possessed great energy, strict integrity, and an unyielding morality joined with remarkable equanimity of temper and amiability of disposition; and the whole community deeply deplore the sudden departure of one whose example as a husband, parent, brother, friend, neighbor and citizen, were so preeminently worthy of imitation. Believing God, the final holiness and consequent happiness of all intelligent beings were clearly taught in the word of God, he firmly embraced this consoling faith, and adorned it by love to God and deeds of kindness to his fellow men. He was honored by all and the needy, the widow, and the orphan, especially will bless his memory. He was patient in sickness, and in death had no fears. Conscious of his speedily approaching exit, in full exercise of his reason, and in entire resignation to the divine will, he calmly fell asleep in Jesus, to wake in incorruption, immortality, power and glory. an immense congregation attended his funeral in the Presbyterian meeting house at Pharsalia Centre, on the 12th last, who by his request, were addressed by Rev.
