PLACE - CURTISS:  At the residence of the bride's father, Mr. Dwight Curtiss, in this village [Sherburne, Chenango Co., NY], on the 14th inst. by Rev. G.A. Place of Chenango Forks.  Mr. Frank W. Place and Miss Clara Curtiss, both of this village.

The wedding festivities of Mr. Frank W. Place and Miss Clara Curtiss on Wednesday evening were attended by a large company of invited guests, and the entertainment was one of the most brilliant of the season.  Revs. G.R. Burnside and W.G. Queal assisted in the ceremonies.  The newly wedded pair will pass a few days at the residence of the bridegroom's father in Mt. Upton [Chenango Co. NY] and then return to Sherburne which they propose to make their permanent residence.

ANDERSON - STEBBINS:  In the 1st Baptist Ch. Mt. Upton, N.Y. [Chenango Co.], by Rev. L.B. Yale of Guilford, Mr. Homer J. Anderson of Guilford [Chenango Co. NY] and Miss Louella D. Stebbins of Unadilla [Otsego Co. NY].

PARKER - STOCKWELL:  On Friday evening of last week a very quiet wedding came off at the residence of Mr. R.C. Stockwell.  The Parties were Mr. George W. Parker and one of Mr. Stockwell's daughters, Jennie [Stockwell].  Only a few of the nearest friends were invited.  The nuptial ceremony was performed by Rev. N.S. Reynolds at 5 o'clock p.m., after which a reception was given, and at 7 o'clock the parties took up their abode in their own house, near the residence of the bride's parents, which had already been furnished by the groom and went immediately to keeping house, instead of taking a bridal tour.  We congratulate the newly married couple and wish them a long and prosperous voyage through life.  Ye printers were duly remembered.

News Item

It is said that Mr. John Barry of Owego, is soon to enter into connubial relations with a wealthy widow of Pittsburg [PA], a Mrs. Jane Nelson.  Mrs. Nelson was a prominent member of the Pittsburg delegation at the recent Spencer Camp Meeting, and it was chiefly through her generosity that Francis Murphy received the gift of a splendid flag and banner on that occasion. The wedding is to come off at the lady's residence in Pittsburg, Thursday, November 15.  Candor independent.  It will be remembered that Mr. Barry was the first speaker of the Murphy movement in this village [Bainbridge, Chenango Co. NY].

News Item - The Lost Man

Potter Matteson left his house in Edmeston [Otsego Co. NY] about a mile from De Lancy's on the 4th inst. for the purpose of looking for some stray cattle, expecting to return that night or the next morning.  He has not since returned and no information has been received respecting his fate.  He had complained a little of an unpleasant feeling in his head.  He was a middle-aged man, very curly dark hair and dark heavy beard, had on a black hair cap, black coat, green pantaloons, butternut colored vest, checkered cravat and coarse boots and was about 30 years of age. Any information respecting his fate, will be thankfully received by Warren De Lancey P.M. Edmeston manor, or the P.M. in this village.

Deaths

In this village [New Berlin, Chenango Co. NY], on the 2d inst., Mrs. Ruth Miller, aged 68 years.  Mrs. M. has been a resident of this village upwards of twenty years and was highly esteemed for her many virtues and amiable character.

We learn that a little girl about 10 years of age, daughter of Mr. Nelson Edwards living five or six miles from this village, near Morris [Otsego Co. NY] was burnt to death today (Saturday) during the temporary absence of her mother from the house.  Her clothing accidently took fire by some means unknown and on the mother's return she found the crisp and blackened remains of the poor little girl lying on the floor of a bedroom, whither she had crawled in her agony, entirely lifeless and so disfigured as not to be recognized.
