Mary (Gilbert) Fletcher

Mary Gilbert Fletcher entered into rest May 1st, 1919.  She was born in Masonville [Delaware Co., NY] and the early years of her life were passed there; she was the only daughter of John and Deniza Gilbert, and had but one brother, who passed into the great beyond some years ago.  She has been for several years a faithful member of the M.E. church, although for several years unable to attend any of its services because of the slow lingering malady from which she suffered; yet, during all those years it was always her wish that the other members of her family attend divine worship and report to her as much as possible of the service that being one of her chief pleasures. The calls and visits of her pastor and friends were always looked forward to with delight and recalled afterward as bits of brightness that broke the monotony of the days.  Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher were united in marriage Jan. 17, 1883, and until about ten years ago resided on a farm in the town of Guilford.  Since Mrs. Fletcher's health began to fail they have been residents of the village.  Many relatives and friends gathered at the home on Bixby street on Saturday, May 3rd, to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed one.  The floral pieces were beautiful and expressed better than words, the tender sympathy of her friends.  The singing, by Mr. and Mrs. Banner, Mrs. Howland and Mr. Bentley was greatly appreciated by the family while the kindly sympathetic words of the pastor touched every heart and made those who heard them think most seriously of the "long home" toward which we are journeying.  The burial as in the beautiful little cemetery at Yaleville [Guilford, Chenango Co.., NY], where other members of the family also await the call to the resurrection.

Hill who then lived in Afton, N.Y.  At Afton she was united in marriage with Charles French who departed this life about four years ago.  A little over two years ago she became the wife of James Ireland, well known in this vicinity.  She was an interested member of O.E.S. and an active member of the Baptist church deeply interested in all its activities.  Mrs. Ireland was known by her neighbors and friends everywhere as an exceeding kind-hearted woman, ever ready to give a helping hand in time of trouble or distress.  She will be greatly missed in the community and especially in the church of which she was a constant member.  Funeral services were held at her late residence Wednesday Jan. 23.  Interment was at Afton [Chenango Co., NY].  She is survived by her husband James Ireland; two sons Paul French of this village and Kenneth French of Binghamton; one daughter, Mrs. Warren Corbin of Bennettsville; one brother George Broome of Hamminton, N.J. and three sisters, Mrs. H.T.
