Deaths

CHURCH:  In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY] on Wednesday morning, November 13th, 1878, Ella B. [Church] wife of John W. Church, Esq. and daughter of the late Hon. Samuel H. Barnes, aged 33 years, 10 months and 13 days.  Funeral services at the residence of her mother on East Main Street, Friday at 2 o'clock P.M.

After weeks and months of patient suffering the estimable wife of District Attorney Church died this (Wednesday) morning, at her home in this village.  While her departure has for days past been anticipated and every attention bestowed upon her which affection could suggest to smooth her path to the tomb, the announcement of her death will cause a feeling of sadness in many loving hearts.

Deceased was a daughter of the late Hon. Samuel H. Barnes and has during her life resided in Norwich.  Her many womanly virtues had endeared her to a large circle of relatives and acquaintances and the bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathies of neighbors and friends in their affliction.  Her husband and little son survive her.

MOREY:  In Norwich [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 3d, Florence May [Morey], daughter of George and Rhoda Morey, aged 1 year and 10 months.

PARKER:  In Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY] Oct. 21st, Myron [Parker] son of H.M. and Mary A. Parker, aged 6 years.

ALDRICH:  In Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 5th, Marilda Aldrich aged 90 years 3 months and 18 days.

INGRAHAM:  In Oxford [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 11th, Miss Annis Ingraham aged 74 years.

Miss Annis Ingraham, who was injured by being thrown from a wagon a week ago last Sunday, died on Monday morning last.  she never fully recovered consciousness from the time of the accident.  Her age was 78 years.

Oxford Times, Oxford, NY, November 6, 1878:  On Sunday afternoon last, George McNeil and Miss Annis Ingraham were on their way to this village in a buggy (the lady having been assisting in the household duties at Mr. Luman McNeil's). One side of the thill dropped down, the horse became frightened, and the parties were thrown from the wagon which was descending a hill at the time.  The horse got loose from the buggy and ran on to the flat bordering the road.

Mr. McNeil received several scalp wounds and complained of considerable pain in his side.  Miss Ingraham, who is an aged lady fared worse.  She was taken up unconscious and carried into the residence of Mr. Wells and afterwards was removed to her residence in this village and had not returned to consciousness on Monday.  Dr. Lee was called and found that her shoulder was broken and that she was suffering from internal injuries, which he fears will prove fatal.

ALEXANDER:  In Greene [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 3d, Sarah [Alexander] wife of Jackson Alexander, aged 63 years and 6 months.

SMITH:  In Newark Valley [Tioga Co. NY], Oct. 27th, Mr. Joel Smith aged 97 years, formerly of Oxford [Chenango Co. NY].

PRESTON:  In Afton [Chenango Co. NY] Oct. 26th, Mr. William Z. Preston aged 70 years.

HACKETT:  In Point Celeste, Plaquemime Parish, Louisiana, Oct. 25th, 1878, of a second attack of yellow fever brought on by exposure in caring for the sick and dying in his parish, Rev Otis Hackett, son-in-law of the late Dea. Charles Randall of this village.  He was an Episcopal clergyman and will be remembered by many of the older citizens of Norwich.  His wife and a large family of children survive him.

BAKER:  In New York, Oct. 26th, Sarah S. [Baker] widow of Looe Baker and daughter of the late Gen. Jacob Morris, of Morris [Otsego Co. NY] aged 91 years.
