In this village [Binghamton, Broome Co. NY] on the 21st inst. Mr. William H. Wright son of Mr. William J. Wright in the 20th year of his age. His disease was hemorrhage of the lungs and so rapid was its progress that his friends and acquaintances had hardly noticed his absence from the usual walks of life before they heard of his death. To his aged and feeble parents this bereavement is a severe trial. He was the staff of their old age, the solace of their declining years. But God took him, and they bow with submission, knowing that "he doeth all things well." It is a rich consolation to him, and to all the afflicted circle that the messenger of death found his victim prepared for the summons, ready to leave all, and go up higher. He had been a professed Christian for about eight months and had given good evidence of his attachment to the Saviour. To such a one death has no terrors. It is but the rough passage to a world of glory. His sickness was not painful, and his end was peculiarly peaceful and happy.

He was there on a visit and a couple having been married in the neighborhood, they had to be horned, and this man was invited to attend as one of the horners. A gun was fired from the house where the new married party were, which took effect in his back, tearing him fearfully, and it is thought he cannot survive. Death
In this town [Oneonta, Otsego Co. NY], on the 27th ult. after an illness of two days, Mrs. Mary Richardson, wife of Col. Wm. Richardson, aged 66 years.
Death of E.R. Low: The death of this gentleman is deeply regretted. For a year past he had filled the responsible and trying office of Keeper of the Poor House, with great fidelity and to the entire satisfaction of those having an oversight of that establishment and had endeared himself to the Poor by his uniform kindness and efficiency. His death is supposed to have been occasioned by a contusion on the head, received last fall, while hastening to extinguish a fire in one of the buildings connected with the poor house. It ultimately produced inflammation of the brain. Freeman's Journal

Death
Mr. James Sloat, a respectable farmer of this town [Delhi, Delaware Co. NY], was found dead in his house on Wednesday morning last. We understand that he had a sick cow, and in order to be more convenient to go and look to her during the night, he had some articles of bedding put upon the floor in the kitchen, where he proposed to rest himself and go out and in without disturbing the rest of the family, consisting of his wife and one daughter. In the morning, they found him on his couch and supposing him to be asleep, concluded not to disturb him. When they had prepared the breakfast, they went to call him and found he was dead. We have not heard the cause of his death stated. He was about 55 years of age and was much esteemed. Delhi Gazette.
News Items
Abram Kirk, the last Slave in Pennsylvania has died. He was 103 years of age, at least, and probably had reached a term of years much beyond that number. He retained a faithful memory of many revolutionary incidents, having once assisted in rowing LaFayette across the Susquehanna. The boat in which Abram was rowing ran upon the rocks, which elicited from LaFayette the request "Do not drown any of my noble men. I expect to have need of them all at Yorktown." It is a matter of congratulation that slavery has at length been terminated, even by death, in the "Old Keystone."
Murder and Robbery: A telegraphic dispatch was received by Mrs. Morehouse in this city last evening, stating that her husband, Mr. Marcus Morehouse had been robbed and murdered on the road on this side of Schenectady [Schenectady Co. NY]. Mr. Morehouse, who owns a house and lot on 10th Street in this city [Oswego, Oswego Co. NY] and has lately in partnership with his brother purchased a farm about four miles up the river, left Oswego about ten days since to visit an uncle of his, who resided near Schenectady and took about $300 with him, in cash, to procure stock, &c and was expected to return early this week. It is supposed that some person cognizant of the fact of his having such a sum with him, waylaid him on his return and committed the dreadful crime for the purpose of obtaining the money, as it is stated in the dispatch that it was gone. No particulars are stated, nor has any further account reached this city, than the brief notice by the telegraph. Oswego Times.
