Simon Turner, an old and respected resident of Preston, where he resided with his son, Simon W. Turner, on Tuesday afternoon last.  He left the house about eleven o'clock, and as he did not return to dinner, search was made soon after, when his lifeless body was found at a brook near the house, where he was in the habit of going to wash himself.  It is supposed that on this occasion, in stooping over to reach the water, he lost his balance, his limbs being feeble, and he fell forward, striking the right side of his face upon a large stone in the brook, as severe bruises were found about the right eye, probably causing concussion of the brain. Deceased was a brother of Dea. Lester Turner of this village and was in his ninetieth year.  Funeral services will be held at his late residence, on Thursday at 2 o'clock P.M.

PADDOCK:  In Binghamton [Broome Co. NY] July 4th Rev. Zachariah Paddock, D.D., aged 51 years.

Rev. Zachariah Paddock, D.D. expired at his residence in Binghamton, at twenty-five minutes past three o'clock on Friday morning last, in the eighty-first year of his age.  Sixty-one years ago, he was licensed to preach and for upwards of fifty years he faithfully and zealously labored as a Methodist minister.  He was widely known in Central New York, having for many years served as minister and Presiding Elder in the old Oneida Conference, and he was for a time editor of the Banner, a Methodist paper published in Auburn [Cayuga Co. NY].  In 1870 he was superannuated by the Conference on account of his advanced age and failing health and since that time he has resided in Binghamton, preaching often, officiating at Marriages, funerals, church and society meetings, writing for the newspapers, etc.  He attended the annual session of Wyoming conference, held in this village in April last.  His end was peaceful, his last words being, "I am walking with Death."  His funeral was largely attended on Sunday afternoon, Bishop Peck preaching the sermon.  Among the clergy men present were Rev. T. Harroun, Rev. Eben Halley, Rev. Dr. Parke, rector of Christ Church; Rev. M.C. Lightner, rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd; and Rev. Father Hourigan pastor of St. Patrick's Church, and Rev. N.J. Quinn, the assistant pastor.  The pall bearers were Rev. Dr. Clarke, Rev. J.B. Sumner, Rev. A.D. Alexander, Hon. W.B. Edwards, Hon. B.N. Loomis, and Hon. Ausburn Birdsall. The room was heavily draped in festoons of black. Also, the easy chair upon the platform, which was occupied for many years by the deceased, was draped in mourning and left vacant.

HUSTED:  A deaf and dumb man who went by the name of "Dummy," residing at Hamilton [Madison Co. NY] was killed on the Midland railroad about half a mile north of the Earlville depot [Madison Co. NY], between three and four o'clock on Tuesday afternoon.  He reached Earlville on the afternoon train from Syracuse and was making his way home on foot, taking the railroad track, when he was overtaken by an extra coal train, and although the engineer repeatedly whistled a warning, he of course did not heed it. Both legs were cut off near the knee, his head crushed and his body badly cut.  He died within half an hour after the accident.  A doctor was called from Earlville and later a coroner from Hamilton. The name of the unfortunate man was Lyman Husted, His age was about forty-five years, and he was without a family.  He had worked a long time at shoemaking in Hamilton and was well thought of.

HOLMES & SANFORD:  The body of Miss Olive C. Holmes, who was drowned in Onondaga Lake, June 21st, was found floating on the water Wednesday afternoon of last week, by her father.  The remains of Alfred T. Sanford who was drowned at the same time, were also found floating on Thursday evening, about a mile and a half distant from the spot where Miss Holmes' body was found. The body was greatly discolored and disfigured, and the clothing torn as if by grappling hooks.  Both funerals were held at the Central Baptist church in Syracuse [Onondaga Co. NY].  Mr. Holmes' remains were interred at Oakwood cemetery in that city and those of Mr. Sanford were taken to Homer [Cortland Co.] for burial.

MORGAN:  New Berlin, Chenango Co. NY:  The funeral of Eddie Morgan was largely attended on Monday last.  The services were impressive and affecting.  Water lilies were placed in every beautiful form about Eddie, and one was in his cold white fingers. These sweet white flowers must ever bring to the hearts of those most deeply afflicted sad and yet sacred memories.  If water lilies could grow and bloom away from the silvery river, we almost know that they would find a place on Eddie's grave.
