NEWMAN - RICHMOND - LAMPHERE:  Unadilla Valley, Chenango Co. NY:  The death of Alpheus Newman of Addison [Steuben Co. NY] at the residence of Chauncey Graves, on Monday last, was third death among the aged in our vicinity within three weeks.  Seth Richmond, aged 89; Mr. Newman, aged 87; and Mrs. Lyman Lamphere aged 79.  Mrs. Newman has the sincere sympathy of her many friends in the new affliction.  Coming among us to attend the last hours of a beloved sister, Miss Harriet Place, she is called first to part with the companion of her life.

MATHEWSON:  William Mathewson of New Berlin [Chenango Co. NY] who was sentenced to Auburn prison for a term of four years for complicity with Esther Mudge, now in the county jail for infanticide, in a similar affair at Hubbardsville [Madison Co. NY] some two years ago, recently died in that institution after a brief illness.

PADDOCK:  the venerable Zacariah Paddock, D.D. whose life has been trebling in the balance for weeks, died at his home in Binghamton [Broome Co. NY] on the morning of the fourth inst. at the ripe age of eighty-one.  For several years he had been on the list of superannuated Methodist clergymen, but in spite of this fact he may be said to have died in the harness, having preached as long as his strength held out.  For twenty-two years he was presiding elder in five different districts.  Dr. Paddock was well known in this village and was highly esteemed for his uprightness and integrity as well as his many Christian virtues.  He was last in this village at the Conference held a few weeks since, and Father Paddock was everywhere greeted, whether from saint or sinner, with genuine affection. Those who had so long labored with him in Conference connection felt, as they helped him down, the church steps for the last time, that that was his last conference, and as they took him by the hand, many of them and bade him a long farewell the scene was affecting indeed.  Dr. Paddock has been in the ministry since 1817 and was active in the discharge of the duties of his office until 1870 when he was superannuated at his own request, though until the day of his death, he was active in the performance of such duties as came within his province.  He has gone to his reward.
