On the 11th inst., Willie Gage, a lad of 12 years of age, son of Franklin Gage, Esq. of this village [Waterloo, Seneca Co. NY] was fatally wounded by the accidental discharge of a pistol from the effects of which he died on Thursday last. He was in the act of putting the pistol in his pocket when it discharged and part of its contents passed through his leg. This accident is similar to many we notice almost daily in our exchanges, resulting from a careless use of firearms and is a warning against permitting the use of them by those who are too young to exercise the necessary caution to prevent accidents.
In Connection with the above, it may not be amiss to notice that a ball passed through the slaughterhouse of John Bodee, in this village a few days since very near where he and another person were at work. The individual who fired it little thought he was so near destroying human life. Waterloo Observer
the lad who lost his life in the manner above described, was a nephew of Mr. Ansel Berry of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY].
