Marriage
On the 26th inst. in the town of Milford [Otsego Co. NY], Mr. Andrew Johnson to Miss Abigail Ellis after the following courtship:
On Friday evening, the bride sent to the bridegroom, for a pair of shoes with a promise that if he would make them, she would marry him. He accordingly made the shoes on Saturday and carried them to her and claimed her promise. She declared she was ready, and in less than two hours they were married by the Rev. Mr. Dodge. We wish them much happiness in their new connection but beg the liberty of applying the following stanza from that excellent Poet, Doctor Wyatts.
"Not the wild herd of Nymphs and Swains, / Who, thoughtless fly into the chains, / As custom leads the way; / If there be bliss without design, / Ivies and Oats may grow and twine, / And be as blest as they"

"The voice said, cry. And he said, what shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodness thereof is as the flower of the field; / The grass withereth the flower fadeth; because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass. / The grass withereth, the flower fadith; but the word of our God shall stand forever." Isaiah XL, 6, 7, 8.
