Death
In Cortlandville [Cortland Co. NY] on the 2d inst. Jacob Mills aged 38 years.
It was the sundering of earthly ties which made his funeral deeply solemn to the large audience in attendance. None doubted that death to him was gain. He had been happy in his Christian profession and had developed its principles. He was a husband, and his widow mourned his death. His only daughter felt that she had been bereft of her most reliable earthly protector. His aged mother now a widow in her grief exclaimed "O that I could have died in his stead." He was an esteemed citizen, and his death has created a large vacancy in the neighborhood which the survivors felt. He was a beloved member and officer in the Presbyterian church and many feel that they have parted with a valuable Christian brother. But the Lord had need of him.

Death
On Friday afternoon last, Will Tinker and his mother were picking berries in the lot near the Hoboken Pond when they came across a man lying upon the ground, whom they at first supposed to be someone under the influence of liquor, but who upon a closer examination proved to be Fred Wales and upon turning him over that found that he was dead. Poor Fred was subject to fits, and the supposition is that he had one of his bad spells while in the berry lot which proved to be his last. His funeral was largely attended on Sunday afternoon.
