Obituaries (July 19)

Hannah Gilbert
Norwich Journal, May 19, 1830
Died, on the 5th inst. Mrs. Hannah Gilbert, wife of Deacon Joseph T. Gilbert, of Gilbertsville [Otsego Co., NY], in the 45th year of her age.  Few have been more useful, more respected and beloved in life than Mrs. Gilbert, and few have behind them more substantial evidence of having entered into the Paradise of God!

William Arnold
Northern Christian Advocate, January 6, 1847
Wm. Arnold died in Norwich, Chenango Co. N.Y., Nov. 19, 1846, aged 61 years.  Brother Arnold for 41 years, and by his upright conduct as a citizen and neighbor, had secured, and for many years enjoyed, the high esteem of the community.  For the last four years of his life, he was much afflicted with disease, though he was confined to his house only one week previous to his death.  three years ago the present winter he became experimentally pious, and since that time has added the character of a consistent Christian to the excellences he formerly possessed.  His sufferings were endured without a murmur, and death was met without dread.  That love which casteth out fear, was shed abroad in his heart and assured him of the presence of the great shepherd whose rod and staff support in the valley of the shadow of death. A wife and ten children, all now grown to manhood, are left to lament their loss; they, however, mourn not as those who have no hope.    L.L. Knox
