At the home of the bride's bather in Laurens [Otsego Co. NY] January 15, by Rev. A.S. Clark, Fred A. Mead of Albany [Albany Co. NY] and Miss Mary D. Fields only daughter of Hon. Wm. C. Fields.

An unusually happy event transpired at the residence of Hon. Wm. C. Fields, our respected townsman on Wednesday evening last.  It was the marriage of his estimable and devoted daughter, Miss Mary D. Fields, with Fred A. Meads of Albany, second son of Northrup Mead of Laurens.  The guests were limited to a few of the immediate friends and relatives of the bride and groom.  Frank Mead, brother of the groom, acted as groomsman and Misses Emma and Libbie Shove as bridesmaids.  Rev. A.S. Clark performed the ceremony.

Everything pertaining to the joyous affair was most complete.  The ladies' toilets exhibited unusual taste and elegance.  After one of the most magnificent collations ever served in our village on a like occasion, and an hour of social cheer in which none participated with greater relish than the newly made father-in-law, the "Squire," the happy couple left for the city.

they will be absent about a month, spending most of the time in Albany where Mr. Mead is engaged in business with his brother, James Mead.  Fred is one of the noblest young men that Laurens ever sent abroad and is every way worthy of his fair bride, while he is also to be congratulated on having won one of Laurens' very best daughters.  May good wishes follow them.

Willie Bennett aged 21, died at Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY] Sunday from injuries received by the falling of a barn door on his head a month ago.

Chenango Union, Norwich, NY, January 15, 1879:  A friend writes us from Smyrna that Willie Bennett, of that town, died on Saturday morning last, from the effects of injuries received by the falling of a barn door upon his head, about a month since.  His age was twenty-one years, and he had been married but thirteen weeks and three days.  He was a young man much respected in the community and leaves many friends to mourn his loss.  His young wife and aged father and mother and the entire family have the sympathy of the whole community.  Some ten years since his oldest brother, Algerson, died at about the same age, having been married thirteen weeks and five days.
