Elopement
Mr. Levi Main, a widower, and father of one small child, eloped with the wife of John Hembery, the mother of two children, from this town last week to parts unknown. The woman took one of her children and some ten dollars in cash, the hard earnings of her husband. Main is a poor, shiftless coot and a vagabond, but the woman is represented as bearing a good character heretofore; was young and much better circumstanced in life than Main, and why she should have committed such an act is unfathomable. but there is no accounting for taste, as the old woman said when she kissed the cow. The husband plucks up courage and says "good riddance."
Death
John A. Messinger, Esq. died of cholera at Milwaukee, Wis. a short time since, after an illness of only five hours. Mr. Messinger was forty-five years of age. He was formerly a resident of this vicinity and has numerous friends and relatives in Madison County [NY] who will be pained to hear of his unexpected death. We believe Mr. M. was under indictment for alleged participation in the rescue of the Fugitive Slave Glover. He has now gone beyond the jurisdiction of Courts and marshals where the vindictive animosity of Sharpstein, the District Attorney, can pursue him no farther. Oneida Sachem
