Death

The death of Mrs. Rufus Chandler, occurred after a short illness on Friday night at the residence of her nephew W.H. Benedict, where she was visiting.  The funeral was attended at Coventry [Chenango Co. NY] on Sunday at 4 p.m.  Mrs. Chandler had passed the allotted four score years and it seems a striking coincidence that death should have claimed her for his bride in the same house and near the same spot where she pledged her heart and hand 56 years ago at Hymen's altar to him who has since borne her pleasant companionship through life and who is now left to mourn her departure.  It was hers to help compose a representative family of our town's earlier history and of that family only her aged husband, the "Colonel," is left.  He has the hearty sympathy of our people in his affliction.
