Betsy Ann (Trumble) Cadwell

1849-1910

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  At the  home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Snow, on Columbia street, Monday last, Mrs. Betsy Ann Cadwell, wife of George  H. Cadwell, a lifelong resident of Norwich, died at the age of 61.  Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Trumble and was born in the town of North Norwich on February 13, 1849.  Her marriage to Mr. Cadwell took place on February 11, 1866.  Until seven years ago, when she suffered a shock, Mrs. Cadwell, was a woman of exceptional energy.  In her home she was a loving wife and a devoted mother.  In 1874 she united with the First Baptist church upon confession and later by letter became a member of the Calvary Baptist church.  Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W.A. Snow, of Norwich; one son, George W. Cadwell, of Binghamton; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Pike, of Earlville; Mrs. James Cadwell, of this place; Mrs. John Porteous and Mrs. Thomas Carl; four brothers, John, George, Jesse and Benjamin Trumble, all residents of Michigan; and by four grandchildren, Bessie and Carl Cadwell, of Binghamton, and Leola and Gertrude Snow of this place.  Prayer was said at the home of her daughter on Columbia street at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon and at 2:30 services were held in the Calvary Baptist church, Rev. Ira W. Bingham officiating.  Interment was made in Mount Hope Cemetery [Norwich, NY].

 

Lawrence J. Witham, 1944 - 1952

Lawrence J. Witham, 8, a pupil in the South New Berlin Central School [Chenango Co., NY], died Thursday at the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Leukemia.  He was born in Norwich on January 3, 1944, the son of Lawrence and Catherine Belden Witham and lived in Holmesville [Chenango Co., NY].  The parents are the only survivors.  The Rev. Donald Franklin, pastor of Holmesville Baptist Church, conducted services at the residence on Sunday and burial followed in Chenango Valley Cemetery, Binghamton [Broome Co., NY].

 

John A. Collier, 1881 - 1952

John A. Collier, 71, died Wednesday at his home in Sherburne [Chenango Co., NY].  He had been in failing health for several years and had suffered a heart attack two weeks ago from which he never rallied.  Mr. Collier was born November 2, 1881, in the Town of Plymouth [Chenango Co., NY], the son of Charles and Sarah Wilkes Collier.  He had spent most of his life in Sherburne where he engaged in farming.  On December 26, 1906, he was married to Sarah Jane Payson.  She died November 22, 1934.  Following her death he sold his farm moving to Sherburne Quarter.  Surviving are three brothers, Harvey, Herman, both of North Norwich, Eugene of Norwich and Several nieces and nephews.  The body rests at the Beecher Funeral Home in Earlville, where funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, the Rev. Rexford Crounse, pastor of the Methodist Church of Sherburne officiating.  Burial will be in Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.

 

Dr. John Cahill, 1890 - 1952

Dr. John A. Cahill, 62, a native of Norwich, and medical superintendent of the Kingston Avenue Hospital, Brooklyn, died on Tuesday.  Dr. Cahill was graduated from Norwich High School in 1907 and New York University Bellevue Hospital Medical School in 1913.  He served in the Army during World War I and had been medical superintendent also of Riverside Hospital, New York.  He was born Aug. 18, 1890, the son of Michael and Minnie Beagle Cahill.  A solemn requiem funeral mass was offered Saturday at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Brooklyn. The body was then brought to the Fahy Funeral Home.  A solemn requiem mass was offered in St. Paul's Church Wednesday and burial followed in St. Paul's Cemetery.  The only survivors are a sister, Miss Mary Cahill and two cousins, Julian and Edgar Howe, all of Norwich.
