Deaths
Suddenly, in Colchester [Delaware Co. NY], on the 23d ult., Mr. Lewis Hait in the 63d year of his age. The deceased had been a resident of this town [Delhi, Delaware Co. NY] 35 years, during which he had enjoyed much confidence and respect. This was evinced by his being repeatedly elected to the offices of Supervisor and Magistrate, the last of which he filled at the time of his death. But his memory "is blessed" chiefly on account of the Christian character he exhibited during a long life and the consequent triumphant hope in death.
At Harpersfield [Delaware Co. NY] on the 8th ult., Capt. Thomas Dennis, aged 67 years.
In Schenectady [Schenectady Co. NY] on Saturday last, Daniel Martin, Esq., President of the Mohawk Bank, aged 58 years.
At New York on Monday, Jacob Rutsen Van Rennselaer, Esq. in the 69th year of his age. Mr. V.R. was formerly a member of the Columbia County Bar [NY], and for many years represented that county in the Legislature.
At his residence in Geneva [Ontario Co. NY] on the 24th ult. after a protracted and painful illness, the Hon. Nathan Williams, one of the clerks of the Supreme Court of this State [NY] and for many years Circuit Judge and Vice Chancellor of the Fifth Judicial District and until recently an inhabitant of Utica [Oneida Co. NY].

In this town [Delhi, Delaware Co. NY] on Thursday the 1st inst. by the Rev. Mr. Maxwell, Mr. Bela C. Frist to Miss Finanda [Frisbee] daughter of Mr. William Frisbee.
In this village [Delhi, Delaware Co. NY] on Thursday the 8th inst. by the Rev. Mr. maxwell, Mr. James B. Howe to Miss Ann [Steele] daughter of Mr. Nathaniel Steele.
In Hamden [Delaware Co. NY] on Wednesday, the 7th inst. by the Rev. Mr. Maxwell, Mr. Robert Meicklehem to Miss Catharine [Yendes] daughter of Mr. George Yendes.
Deaths
At his residence in Meredith [Delaware Co. NY] on Monday the 5th instant, after a severe illness in the head of about twelve weeks, Ammon Bostwick Esquire, aged fifty-nine years six months and sixteen days. He was a kind husband, an affectionate father, and has left a disconsolate widow and children to mourn his loss, which to them is irreparable. Few men have lived more respected and died more lamented. a large concourse of people attended his funeral. An appropriate discourse was delivered on the occasion by Elder Griswold to a solemn audience, from Matthew, 24k 44.

Mr. Bostwock was an early settler of the town of Meredith, having lived there over forty-one years. He was a man of strict integrity, upright and honest in all his dealings and transactions in life. He has had various public offices in his town and county which he faithfully discharged to the satisfaction of the public, and at the time of his death was Commissioner of Loans for this county. He has been a professor of religion for nearly or quite thirty-five years, and although we mourn his loss, we have reason to hope and believe that our loss is his eternal gain.

In Kortright [Delaware Co. NY] on the 9th ult by the Rev. D. Starks, Mr. Andrew Judson of Jefferson, Schoharie County [NY] to Miss Nancy Stafford daughter of the widow Stafford of the former place.
On the 12 inst. by the same, Harman G. Sheldon to Miss Phebe Ann [Reynolds] daughter of Mr. Henry Reynolds.
In Harpersfield [Delaware Co. NY] on the 1st inst. by the Rev. E. Osborn, Mr. Nathan B. Barnum to Miss Sylvia Quail, all of Harpersfield.
By the same, on the 14th inst. Mr. Francis Levalley of Summit [Schoharie Co. NY] to Miss Margaret Barger of Jefferson [Schoharie Co. NY].
Deaths
In Kortright [Delaware Co. NY] on the 11th inst. Mrs. Hannah Montgomery wife of James Montgomery.
On the 12th inst. in the same town [Kortright, Delaware Co. NY] Miss Sarah Holcomb daughter of the widow Holcomb.
They are both exemplary members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and died with fair prospects of a better world.

On the 19th inst. at the residence of the Hon. Sith Thompson by the Rev. Samuel A. Van Vranken, Thomas T. Everitt, M.D. to Miss Jane H. Thompson.
On Tuesday, the 20th inst. by the Rev. Dr. Reed, George M. Van Kleeck of the firm of George Van Kleeck & Co. merchants, to Miss Eliza Wilson all of Poughkeepsie [Dutchess Co. NY].
In Andes [Delaware Co. NY] on the 17 inst. by the Rev. James Laing, Mr. James Wilson of Kortright [Delaware Co. NY] to Miss Mary Fletcher of Andes.
In the above case, the printers were remembered by a good slice of the bridal loaf. We wish them a long life of prosperity and happiness.
News Item
On Monday the 19th inst. a monument was erected in the graveyard of this village [Delhi, Delaware Co., NY] of the lamented Gen. Leavenworth. It is of East-Chester marble of the Ionic order, and including the base, die, cap plinth and broken column, it twelve feet six inches in height. It's weight is five tons. It was sculptured in New York; the artists, Fisher & Bird. It was erected under the superintendence of Major Belknap of the U.S. Army. The inscriptions are:
West front: In Memory / of / Henry Leavenworth / Colonel of the United States 3d infantry, / and / Brigadier General in the Army.
South front: Born / At New Haven, Connecticut, / December 10, 1783; / Died / In the Service of his country Near the False Weschita, / July 21, 1834
East front: For his civic Virtues / His Fellow-Citizens of Delaware / Honored him with a Seat / In the Legislature of New York; / Two Fields of / Chippewa, Niagara and Aurickaree, / Establish his Fame as a Soldier.
North front: As a Testimonial / To his public and private worth, / His Regiment have erected / This monument.
