Ryan - Welch

Married October 14, 1940, Norwich, NY

Miss Mary G. Welch, daughter of East Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], and Thomas W. Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ryan of East Norwich were united in marriage Monday morning at 8 o'clock with a nuptial Mass in St. Paul's church. Rev. Charles M. Coveney, pastor, performed the ceremony.  Miss Anna Ryan, sister of the groom, was maid of honor and James Ryan, brother of the groom, acted as best man.  The ushers were Stephen Flanagan, uncle of the bride, and Robert Ryan, uncle of the groom. The bride wore a royal blue transparent velvet dress with navy blue accessories.  Her corsage was of pink roses.  The maid of honor was dressed in a back transparent velvet dress with black accessories, and wore a corsage of bronze pompons. The mother of the bride wore a navy blue crepe suit trimmed with white, with navy blue accessories, while the mother of the groom wore a black dress trimmed with gold, with navy blue accessories. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast for the bridal party was held at the Oxford inn.  Immediately after the breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Ryan left for a wedding trip to Washington.  Upon their return they will reside at East Norwich.  Out of town guests were present from Rome, Corning, Cortland, Oxford and Oneida.  pre-nuptial showers were given by Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fryover of Sherburne, Mrs. Albert Goodrich of East Norwich and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Atwell and Mr. and Mrs. James Goodrich of East Norwich.

Rutherford - Elliott

Married April 1, 1944, Norwich, NY

At the family residence in Randall avenue [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], Miss Mary Elizabeth Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Elliott, became the bride of Irving Walter Rutherford, lieutenant (j,g,) U.S.N.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rutherford of West Hartford, Conn.  The nuptial service was performed at 8 o'clock by Rev. Dr. G. Edgar Wolfe, pastor of the First congregational church, in the presence of some 70 guests, including relatives and close friends. The bride wore white china brocaded silk, cut princess style with a fingertip veil.  She carried a white prayer book covered with white roses and white ribbon.  Her matron of honor, Mrs. Jean Onyan Manzer of Oxford was gowned in pink marquisette.  She wore a pink and white corsage. the father of the groom served his son as best man. The traditional "Bridal Chorus" from the opera "Lohengrin" by Wagner, was played by Miss Marian Hunt. A reception followed, a feature of which was the cutting of the bride's cake, a three-tiered confection, made by the bride's mother. The bride attended Pennsylvania State college where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority and has recently been associated with the engineering department of the Scintilla Magneto Company at Sidney. The groom was graduated by Mt. Herman prep school and from Pennsylvania State college in 1938 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.  Before enlisting he was a practicing architect in New Britain, Conn., where he was a member of the Lions Club.  For the past 21 months he has been overseas and is now assigned to Honolulu.  He came east from San Francisco this week after arriving there for the start of an extended leave. Lieut. and Mrs. Rutherford left for a wedding trip to be passed in New York and at West Hartford, Conn.

Mr. & Mrs. Walter R. Greene

25th Wedding Anniversary, May 21, 1930

Saturday, May 21, proved to be a day of happy surprises for Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Greene--it was their twenty-fifth wedding annviersary.  Little did they think anyone had remembered the day until the mail man came, bringing them seventy-seven beautiful greeting cards, which they were enjoying together, when at eight pm., in drove about fifty friends and neighbors who proceeded to help them celebrate the happy event. To say they were surprised, only faintly expresses it.  After greeting the bride and groom, all settled down to an eveniing of pelasure. A fine program had been rpepared, consisting of prayer by Rev. C.H. Skinenr, coronet duets by Albert Crandall and Raymond Sherburne, readings by Mrs. Isbell, Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Morse, were enjoyed by all.  Mr. Isbell, in his pleasing manner, and in behalf of their friends, congratulated Mr. and Mrs. Greene and presented them with a beautiful silver flower vase, to which they responded, thanking all. Delicious refreshments were served, salad, sandwiches, fruited jello, coffee, white sponge and chocolate cakes, and ice cream.  There were two beautiful bride's cakes with the tiny bride and groom looking on as Mrs. Greene cut and served the cakes. Friends were present from Norwich, Rockdale, South New Berlin and Benington, Vermont.  After registering in the guest book all left for their homes, wishing Walter and Lulu many returns of their wedding day.
