About 1895
A very pleasant society event last week was the marriage of Miss Lena V. Knight, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Knight of Binghamton [Broome Co., NY], and Wm. J. Donnelly of Guilford [Chenango Co., NY]. The ceremony took place at the home of the bride on Clinton St. Wednesday evening, May 29, and was witnessed by over one hundred friends and relatives of the bride and groom. Standing beneath an arch of smilax and roses, with Miss Caroline Smallwood as bridesmaid and Charles Knight as best man, the happy couple were joined in holy wedlock by the Rev. Mr. Kephart, after which congratulations were bestowed upon them, and then dinner was served. The presents were many and elegant and bespoke the high esteem in which the couple are held by their many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly departed on the midnight train, mid showers of rice, for a trip which will include New York and the sea.
A quiet wedding occurred yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Mary Fletcher, on N. Main street [Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY]. Her eldest daughter, Miss M. Dell was married to C.C. Hovey. The ceremony was performed by Rev. H.W. Chollar, pastor of the Baptist church; only the members of the families of the bride and groom were present. There was no ostentation or elaboration, merely the marriage ceremony was passed. The wedded couple immediately afterwards were driven to Sidney where they took the O.&W. train for new York city. They will be absent several weeks. Mr. Hovey is a member of the firm of Hovey, Clark & Co., creamerymen. He has been engaged in that business in Bainbridge for several years and is a thorough business man. He was bereft of a wife who was a mother of four children one year ago. Her death was one of the saddest ever chronicled in Bainbridge. The bride who will become the sunlight of a happy home has always made her home in Bainbridge and was a teacher in the Bainbridge Academy up to a few weeks ago when she resigned. The Republican extends matrimonial greeting and the wishes of unbounded joy.

Ward T Sutherland, pastor of the First Congregational church, and was witnessed only by relatives and a few friends of the contracting parties. [about 1895]
