Roscoe Newel Johnson

1845 - 1907

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  Roscoe Newel Johnson, one of the best known farmers of this section, died at his home at Wood's Corners, north of this village, Tuesday evening, aged 61.  He had been in poor health for nearly a year and several weeks ago suffered a stroke of apoplexy which resulted in his death.  Deceased was born in Carbondale, Pa., a son of William and Mary Randall Johnson, who afterwards moved to this State, residing for a number of years in New Berlin.  Forty-one years ago Mr. Johnson married Laura Ann Brown and since that time they have resided at Wood's Corners.  Mr. Johnson was several times elected commissioner of highways of the town of Norwich and conducted the duties of the office in a most efficient manner.  He was for many years an attendant of the Broad Street M.E. Church.  He is survived by his wife, one son, William K. Johnson, of this village, and a daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Phetteplace, of Wood's Corners; also by three brothers, George, of New Berlin; Homer of North Norwich, and Edwards, of Castile, Pa.  The funeral will be held from his late home tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Wilson Treible officiating.  Burial will be made in Mt. Hope Cemetery and the services at the grave will be conducted by Canasawacta lodge, no. 205, I.O.O.F., of which deceased was a member.

 

Charles Stoddart

Charles Stoddart died in Elgin, Kane Co., Ill., Oct. 16, of typhoid fever, after an illness of several weeks.  He was a native of England.  He came to America in 1834.  He had been in this country about eight years.  He had been a member of the M.E. Church 27 years.  His mind was clear, and his end was peaceful.  He obtained victory over death, and praised God in sight of his eternal reward.  He has left a wife and two children, to mourn the loss of a husband and father.     S. Polly Troop

Northern Christian Advocate, November 19, 1851

Polly, wife of D. Troop, died Oct. 22, in Nineveh [Broome Co., NY] of dysentery, aged 38 years.  She was a devoted Christian, a member of the M.E. Church, and departed this life in peace and Christian hope, leaving a companion and several children to mourn her loss.     E.D Thurston

 

Edith (Young) Hart

Chenango Union, November 8, 1906

Word was received here Thursday of the death of Edith, wife of E.O. Hart of Fayetteville [Onondaga Co., NY], which occurred at a hospital in Syracuse where she had gone two days before for an operation.  The remains were brought to the home of her father, Nicholas Young, on Pleasant Ridge, where the funeral was held on Saturday.  Her age was forty-three years.  The sympathy of many friends here is extended to the husband and son in their affliction.
