Agnes (Darroch) Stumpf

Died August 28, 1931, Pueblo, CO

Relatives here are grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Agnes Darroch Stumpf at her home in Pueblo, Colo, Friday, Aug. 28, 1931, after an extended illness.  Mrs. Stumpf was born in South New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], the daughter of Andrew and Nancy Jacox Darroch, but had been a resident of Pueblo for 37 years. The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Mortuary Chapel, her pastor, Rev. C. Arlin Heydon of the First Baptist Church officiating. The chapel was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends, and the floral tributes were many and beautiful.  Mrs. J. Vinson Adams sang "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee" and Miss Euncie Wennermark gave a violin solo, "Lights of Home."  There were delegations present from the W.C.T.U. of which she had been a member for 25 years, and also from the Pueblo Assembly, Order of Beauceant of which she also was a member.  She is survived by her husband, Conrad Stumpf, and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Pixley, of Pueblo, and the following nieces and nephews in Colo.:  Mrs. George Clark, Walter Pixley and Carl Pixley, of Pueblo, Mrs. Agnes Shifler, of Pine, and Forrest Dean, of Denver; a brother, William Darroch, nephew, Glenn Darroch, and many cousins in this place.

George Earl Swackhamer

Died April 16, 1937, Holmesville, NY

George Earl Swackhamer, 84, passed away at his home in Holmesville [Chenango Co., NY], very suddenly, Friday, April 16, 1937.  Although death came suddenly, the deceased had not enjoyed good health in several years.  He was the son of David and Nancy Sterling Swackhamer, and was born in Pennsylvania, March 30, 1853, where his childhood days were spent. The deceased was twice married.  He married for the first wife Sarah Matteson, and unto them were born four children:  Mrs. Hattie Martin, of Green Island; Vivian Swackhamer, of Oneonta; Charles Swackhamer of Binghamton.  His second wife, Mary Haynes (who survives her husband).  Unto them were born Mrs. Ivan Edwards, of New Berlin; Jesse Swackhamer, of Binghamton. Besides the widow and the children mentioned there survives two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Brocksman, of Binghamton and Mrs. Iva Potter, of West Auburn, Pa.  Mr. Swackhamer had followed the occupation of farming about forty-eight years and had been a shoemaker fifteen years.  He retired form active business about five years ago.  He was a member of the Baptist church of Holmesville. The funeral was held from the late home Tuesday afternoon, April 20, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Ketner, of Binghamton and Rev. G. Henry Simons of Holmesville officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Mount Upton [Chenango Co., NY].

Elizabeth B. (Whitman) Stratton

Norwich Sun, August 10, 1937

Injuries received in a motor accident Sunday proved fatal Monday to Mrs. L.B. Stratton of Absecon, N.J.  Her son Mason, also seriously injured was reported Tuesday to be in a critical condition.  News of the accident was received here by Clarence Tillapaugh of 71 Canasawacta street, a nephew of Mrs. Stratton.  No particulars of the accident were learned.  Mrs. Stratton suffered from a broken hip, brain concussion and chest injuries. The son has a fractured arm, possible fracture of the pelvic bone and multiple cuts and abrasions. The Stratton family formerly resided in this city and friends will be grieved to learn of the tragic accident.  Mason Stratton who attended the norwich high school is now a teacher in the Atlantic City schools.

Florence A. Swan

Died May 14, 1944, New Berlin, NY

Mrs. Florence A. Swan, 72 of Sherburne died Sunday in Chase Memorial Hospital, New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], where she was a patient 12 days, after becoming ill last December. She is survived by a son, Van Swan of Sherburne; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Buell of Ithaca, Miss Mary Swan and Mrs. Ivan Davidson both of Sherburne; a brother, Benjamin Van Wagner of Sherburne; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Dewey of Sherburne and Mrs. Fred Geer of Lebanon; nine grandchildren and several neices and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at her home in Sherburne by Rev. J.F. Ryder of the Baptist church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in West Hill cemetery, Sherburne [Chenango Co., NY]
