Minnie A. (Hoag) Mac Gillivray
Unadilla Times, May 12, 1911
A choice spirit returned unto God, when, on Monday morning, May 8, 1911, Minnie A., wife of Charles O. MacGillivray of this village [Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY] died.  She had suffered for nearly a year with cancers.  Her death was not unexpected.  Mrs. MacGillivray was born Dec. 17, 1862, in the town of Norwich, N.Y. [Chenango Co.].  Her father's name was Almon Hoag and her mother was Elsie Orinda Arnold.  In girlhood she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which her parents were lifelong members.  Since coming to this village, about six years ago, she had won the esteem and friendship of all who knew her.  In the home a faithful and devoted wife and mother; in the church a consistent, loyal and active member; and in the community a quiet, exemplary and self-sacrificing neighbor.  In her character and life were combined, in an unusual degree, the qualities that go to make a true woman.  During her long and painful illness, her patience was heroic and her faith victorious.  With her it was not death, but a coronation.  Beside the husband and son, Merle, there are left one sister, Mrs. Charles Weeden, and a twin brother, Merton R. Hoag, both of Norwich, N.Y.  The funeral was held at the home on Wednesday, following her death, at 10:30 a.m., and was in charge of her pastor, Rev. E. Kilpatrick. The singing was by a quartet consisting of C.C. Moore, J.M. Moore, Mrs. E. Chamberlain, and Mrs. J.B. Judson. The large company of people present at the funeral, together with the many beautiful floral tributes, bear testimony as to how she was universally respected and loved. The burial was in Evergreen cemetery at White Store [Chenango Co., NY], near the place of her birth.
