Deaths

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], Jan. 18th, after a brief illness, Mr. Charles A. King, aged 21 years.  His funeral will be attended by the Odd Fellows, Good Templars, and Fire Department, of which organizations he was a member, at the residence of his father, J.W. King, corner of Henry and Guernsey Streets, this Wednesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock.

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], Jan. 17th, Willie H. [McCarty], son of Milo McCarty, aged 12 years.

In Sherburne [Chenango Co., NY], Jan. 10th, Mr. Michael Corrigan, aged 76? years.

In Smithville Flats [Chenango Co., NY], Jan. 1st, Mr. William McCray, aged 89 years.

In Wellsboro, Pa., Jan. 1st, Mr. James Packer, aged 19 years.  The deceased was the eldest son of Doctor Nelson Packer, formerly of this town [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Barrow of Mansfield on Sunday afternoon last, in the Episcopal Church of this village, where an appropriate and impressive address was delivered.  James was a young man esteemed and beloved by all who knew him.  A large assemblage of deeply afflicted friends followed his remains to the cemetery and testified by their presence and sympathies on the occasion, the high esteem in which the deceased and the bereaved family were held.  Wellsboro, Pa., Democrat.

Fatal Accident on the Midland: Patrick McAndrews, a laborer on the railroad, was buried by an embankment caving in upon him, while excavating near Eaton [Madison Co., NY], on the 7th inst.  He was taken out alive but survived but a few hours.  He leaves a wife and child.  Two others were caught in the same gravel bank but escaped with some severe bruises.
