GRAVES:  In South New Berlin [Chenango Co. NY], Dec. 18th, Little Freddie [Graves], only child of Charles and Maria Graves, aged 10 months and 20 days.

CALKINS:  In Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY], Dec. 8th, Cornelia S. Calkins, aged 44 years, 2 months and 26 days.

MAIN:  In Albany, Kansas, Nov. 25th, Almira [Main], wife of Edwin E. Mian, aged 33 years, formerly of Norwich [Chenango Co. NY]

A letter from William Jones, of DeRuyter [Madison Co. NY], formerly of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY], states that he has received intelligence of the death of his son, Eugene B. Jones, who was shot and instantly killed, between Bryan City and Sweet Water Mines, in Wyoming Territory, early in the present months.  No particulars were given.

Tribute to the Memory of Mrs. Theodore Mungen, Late Miss Kate Allen

She has gone from earth to a happier sphere-- / Too bright, too fragile to linger here; / She is now an angel beside the throne, / While my heart is aching, sad and lone-- / 

My darling Kate has gone to her rest / In the Savior's arms--the home of the blest. / Her lovely cheek, where the rich, red glow / Of the warm blood melted through purest snow, / So sweetly blending in one bright dye, / The mingled beauties of earth and sky / 

Her full dark eyes, like mirrors bright, / Reflecting truths pure, holy light-- / All, all have gone to return no more / For none come back, from the echoless shore / 

My angel Kate! I have seen her move / A floating creature of joy and love, / As light as the mists of a summer morn.  / As sweet as the perfume, from roses borne, / 

Till I almost looked to see her rise / Like happy thought to the clear blue skies. / Her sweet low voice, as it thrilled around, / Seemed to be only the dream of a sound; / 

Softly yet wildly its notes would swell / Like the spirit tones of a silver bell.  / And though no more on earth we'll greet / Our souls in heaven will sure meet / For God, who knows, will take good care / That the souls he gave will all meet there.

The Earlville Tragedy

Coroner Beebe of Waterville, on Tuesday of last week held an inquest on the bodies of Michael Shea, Thomas Bresnahan, Dennis Hogan and John Collins, who came to their death by the caving of the bank as narrated in last week's Union The following is a list of the jurors who served at the inquest:  G.R. Waldron, foreman: Whitman Clark, Alfred Hess, Austin Hawks, Geo. King, Charles S. Pearson, John C. Head, Wellington Lillibridge.  The evidence brought out no additional facts to those published last week, except exonerating the foreman from all blame. The following is the verdict:

Michael Shea, Thomas Bresnahan, Dennis Hogan and John Collins, came to their deaths on Monday, December 19, 1870, by the falling of an overhanging bank of slate rock, in the town of Lebanon, Madison County, N.Y. while at work under the direction of James G. Banks, foreman, and the jury further say that according to the evidence, no blame is, or can be attached to said Banks or to the resident engineer.

Death

GREEN:  In Gloversville, N.Y. [Fulton Co.], Dec. 7th, Mrs. Libbie Howland Green, wife of Mr. Charles N. Green, aged 22 years and formerly a student in Oxford Academy.
