Mary Lally

Mary Lally

 

After a brief illness, Mrs. Mary Lally died at the residence of her son, W.H. Lally, in Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], Monday last.  Deceased was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1833, and came to America in 1852, making her home in Coventry, this county.  The following year she married William Lally, who died November 7, 1878.  For many years they made their home in Guilford [Chenango Co., NY].  Mrs. Lally was a woman greatly esteemed by all who knew her.  She is survived by two sons, Edward A. Lally, of Norwich, and William H. Lally, of Oxford, and four daughters, Mrs. Charles B. Grant, of Guilford; Mrs. J.W. Martin, of New York; Mrs. Will Lennon, of Norwich, and Mrs. Edward Alberts, of Guilford; also one sister, Mrs. De Lima, of Brooklyn.  Funeral services were held from her late home in Oxford at 9:30 and from St. Joseph's Church in Oxford at 10 o'clock Thursday, Rev. Father Mahon officiating. The remains were laid at rest beside those of her husband.  [Buried St. Joseph's Cemetery, Oxford, NY]

Patrick Casey

With the pass out of the old year the spirit of Patrick Casey passed away Wednesday evening last at his home in Preston [Chenango County, NY].  Congestion of the lungs was the cause of death.  Mr. Casey was born in the parish of Doon, County of Limerick, Ireland in 1823 and came to this country settling in Otsego county where on February 25, 1854 he married Miss Rose Dolan in Cooperstown.  Shortly after their marriage they came to Chenango county, where they have since resided.  Mr. Casey followed the occupation of farmer, in which he was successful and formed a wide acquaintance.  He had a jovial, happy disposition.  He was a man of unusual vigor and many will be surprised to learn of his death.  He visited Norwich on Saturday last, apparently in his usual health and spirits.  Mrs. Casey died nine years ago.  Of their ten children, seven survive:  Mrs. H. Bowers and Elizabeth Casey of Norwich; Michael F. and John E. Casey of North Norwich; Mrs. Herbert O. Boyden of Plymouth; William C. and Rose Casey, of Preston.  Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Anna Welch of Norwich and Johannah Ellwood of Cooperstown.  The funeral will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from the house at 9:00 and from St. Paul's Church. Rev. Father Hart officiate.  His interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Norwich [Chenango Co., NY].

Died in this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], on Saturday morning last, Samuel Pike, Esq., aged 52 years.  No man was more highly respected in this community than Mr. P.  His loss has created a void among us which cannot be filled.  Honest and upright in all his dealings as a man and a Christian, kind, charitable and humane, he had gained the universal good will and esteem of all who knew him.  No prouder monument to his worth can be erected than that which was visible in the immense concourse of people who attended is funeral on Monday, to testify the respect which they entertained for his character, while living, and the loss they had sustained in his death.

Died in Philadelphia, Penn., on the 14th January, Dr. Joseph Prentiss, Jr., aged 36 years, a brother of Mrs A. Louisa Hammond.
