Walker - Elston

Afton Enterprise, March 26, 1914

The marriage of Elizabeth H. Walker and James S. Elston took place at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Francis M. Walker, 215 Lormore street, at 8 o'clock Thursday evening, March 19, 1914.  The Rev. Dr. Lew Williams of the Lake street Presbyterian church officiated.  After the ceremony a delicious wedding dinner was served, covers being laid for twenty.  The house was tastily decorated a color scheme of pink and green being carried out with palms and carnations.  The bride was the recipient of many beautiful gifts.  Both the bride and groom are graduates of the Elmira Free Academy, Mr Elston being valedictorian of his class.  Mrs. Elston has been a successful teacher at school no. 5 for several years.  Mr. Elston is a graduate of Cornell University.  After a short trip Mr. and Mrs. Elston will reside in Hartford Conn., where Mr. Elston has an important position in the actuarial department of the Travelers Insurance Company--Elmira Star Gazette.

 

Rowe - Freese

Afton Enterprise, April 9, 1914

Announcements have been received by friends here of the marriage of Percy A. Rowe formerly of this place [Afton, Chenango Co., NY] and Miss Sadie E. Freese of Chicago.  The marriage took place March 21st at 8:30 p.m. at 5226 Quincy St., Chicago, where the groom had purchased and fitted up a home.  Wallis Rowe of St. Louis, brother of the groom, was best man and Miss Ella Freese bridesmaid.  Many valuable presents were received, among them being a case of seventy-six pieces of sterling silver from Wallis Rowe and an elegant bedroom suit from a sister of the bride. Their many friends in Afton extend hearty congratulations.

 

Pierson - Howard

Afton Enterprise, March 5, 1914

Mr. Thomas l. Pierson of Sayre, Pa., and Mrs. Gertrude M. Howard of Afton, N.Y. [Chenango Co.], were married on Tuesday morning, March 3rd, at the parsonage on Spring street, by Dr. J.J. Francis, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Afton.  Their attendants during the ceremony were Miss Belle St. John and Mr. Harry Howard. After a brief stay at Nineveh the happy couple will make their home at Sayre, Pa., where the groom is employed as a skilled machinist.
