William Lyon

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  At his home on Guernsey street, Tuesday evening, William V. Lyon, a well-known and lifelong resident of this village, died at the age of 61.  He had been in poor health for several years.  Mr. Lyon was born in Norwich and was a son of Samuel V. and Julia F. Lyon.  He was an expert tinsmith and plumber and had been in the employ of several Norwich hardware firms and also at one time conducted a tinshop for himself.  His last employment at his trade was in the Hopper factory, conducted by George Eaton.  February 14, 1875, Mr. Lyon married Miss Sarah E. Wright, of Waterville. She survives with three daughters, Mrs. F.M. Philley, of Winsor, N.Y.; Mrs. H.C. Wilbur and Mrs. Ray E. Mooney, and two sons, Samuel E. and Lyle F. Lyon of this village.  He also leaves two brothers, Charles, of Rochester, and Henry, of Preston, and a sister, Mrs. Ulysses E. May, of Norwich.  The funeral will be held from his late home tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, Rev. A.R. Burke officiating.

Charles Manwaring
1855 - 1929
Charles H. Manwaring, a former resident of Guilford [Chenango Co. NY], has passed away at his home in that village [Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY].  His death occurred on the same afternoon when the funeral of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Rolf, was being conducted here.  Mr. Manwaring was 73 years old.  He had been in feeble health, but pneumonia was the cause of his death.  In declining years he was tenderly cared for my his youngest daughter, Hazel.  Mr. Manwaring was born and reared in Guilford, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Manwaring.  The greater part of his life was spent in this vicinity.  On account of ill health he left his farm at Ives Settlement and purchased the home at Unadilla where he died.  He was the last of a family of four children.  He was married twice; his first wife being Miss Flora North.  The results of this union were four children, Clella, Leon, Jessie and Hazel.  His second wife was Libbie Burton.  He was held in high esteem by all which won him many friends, both in the community and church of which for many years he was a member and Sunday School superintendent.  Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Dr. Charles M. Olmstead, associate pastor and dear friend of the deceased officiating.  The body was laid in the family plot in Sunset Hill cemetery, Guilford.  Left to mourn him are two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Teed and Miss Hazel Manwaring of Unadilla, and several grandchildren.

Emmett L. Hutchinson
Bainbridge Republican, July 7, 1921
Guilford [Chenango Co., NY]:  After long and patient suffering, Emmett L. Hutchinson passed away at his late home on Winsor avenue, Thursday morning, June 23, at 12:30 o'clock.  Mr Hutchinson was born in Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY], September 17, 1848, coming to this place early in life making Guilford his home.  On December 29, 1874 at Masonville he was united in marriage to Miss Emily Blenco, by Rev. Manderville and for forty-six years they were travelers along life's pathway.  Three children were born to them, Mrs. Anna Reynolds of Mt. Vision; Howard Hutchinson, of Guilford and Lester Hutchinson of Panama, who survive. Also among those chiefly to be mentioned who survive are a widow, Mrs. E.L. Hutchinson of this place and a brother Theodore of Bainbridge.  His memory long lingers in the hearts of loved ones who will miss the cordial and hearty greeting of him who was one of our most respected citizens. At two o 'clock Saturday afternoon June 25 the funeral service was held from the home, Rev. W.S. York pastor of the M.E. church officiating.  He spoke most fitting words from the text taken from 1 Corinthians 15-59, "For this Corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality," after which the body was taken to Yaleville and laid in the family plot beside those of kindred to await the dawning of the Great Day.  "Here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."  Our deep sympathy go with the bereaved family.
