Charlotte Monell

Chenango American, January 26, 1860

In this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 24th inst., Charlotte, wife of Hon Robert Monell, in the 69th year of her age.  The friend whose decease is above noticed has been long a resident in this place.  United in the marriage relation for a period of nearly fifty years, she leaves a lonely home to her surviving partner.  Her last sickness was long and painful.  She could truly say with one of old, "I am made to possess months of vanity and wearisome nights are appointed to me, yet as a Christian, she found God's grace sufficient for her and His strength made perfect in weakness."  Seldom is it that the shaft aimed so surely by death is thus delayed.  The dying pillow was soothed and softened by the administrations of loving hearts, and it is a comforting thought that so many of the passive virtues of the Christian character were illustrated in the chamber of sickness and on the couch of anguish at the closing moment, the spirit passed away like a candle blown out by the wind. 

"Night dews fall not more gently to the ground;

Nor weary worn out winds expire so soft."

A large circle of friends will cherish the memory of her virtues, and realize that though her departure has left a sad void among them, yet she is now at rest in a land where pain and anguish can never wring the brow--in a land whose inhabitant can never say I am sick.

Carrie B. Warner

Died December 7, 1959

WARNER:  Mrs. Carrie B. Warner, aged 86, of Afton [Chenango Co., NY] died at the Hospital, Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], Monday morning, after a short illness.  She is survived by her husband, Guy J. Warner of Afton; one grandson, Leslie A. Wenn, Jr., of Binghamton; two great-grandsons, David and Andrew Wenn, both of Binghamton, one brother, V.J. Eldred of Bainbridge, and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Karschner Funeral Home, in Afton, where funeral and committal services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.  The Rev. William Watson will officiate.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.

Malcolm Hubert Ray

Died June 24, 1958

Malcolm Hubert Ray, 59, of RD 2, Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], died at 2:20 a.m. today at The Hospital, Sidney [Delaware Co., NY].  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann (Carrington) Ray of RD 2, Bainbridge; a brother, Harry Ray of Syracuse, several aunts, uncles and cousins.  The body was removed to the Harold Sherman Funeral Home, 58 West Main Street, Bainbridge.

Anna Thompson

Died July 20, 1953

Mrs. Anna Thompson, 51, of 5 Garfield Avenue, Endicott [Broome Co., NY], died at 8:05 a.m. today at Wilson Memorial Hospital.  She is survived by her husband, Robert Thompson; one daughter, Bonita Lou Thompson; one sister, Mrs. Harris Fisher, all of Endicott; one brother, Peter Emig of Dushore, Pa.; one cousin, several nieces and nephews.  The body was moved to the Coleman A. Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Endicott.

Harry C. Knowlton

Died January 23, 1956

Sidney:  Funeral rites for Harry C. Knowlton, 44, of Guilford [Chenango Co., NY], will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the C.H. Landers Chapel here by the Rev. Clifford E. Webb of Unadilla.  The body will be placed in the vault at Prospect Hill Cemetery [Sidney, Delaware Co., NY].  Burial will be later in Glenwood Cemetery at Afton [Chenango Co., NY].  Mr. Knowlton's body was found early yesterday in his car in a parking lot of Scintilla Division where he had been employed as a machinist. Delaware county Coroner Dr. Harry J. Wilbur of Walton issued a verdict of suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning.  Born May 7, 1911, at Fly Creek [Otsego Co., NY], he was the son of Frank and Grace (Kneer) Knowlton.  He was a member of the Baptist Church at Harpursville.  His wife, the former Marjorie Miner, survives.  Other survivors include four sons, Carl T. Knowlton, U.S. Navy at Milton, Fla., Ralph Roland and Stephen at home in Guilford; two sisters, Mrs. Coe Young of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mrs. Thomas Salvemini of Binghamton; two brothers, Orville Knowlton of Richmond, Va., and Frank Knowlton of Napanoch; grandmother, Mrs. Peter Kneer of Binghamton, and a grandson, Carl Gene Knowlton.

In Sherburne [Chenango Co., NY], on the 9th isn't., Mr. Edward Sanford, in the 78th year of his age.

In Plymouth [Chenango Co., NY], on the 17th inst., Mrs. Silvy [?] [Evans] wife of Riley Evans, aged 54 years.

In new Berlin [Chenango Co., NY] on the 10th inst., -?- Frink, aged 1 year and 4 months.

FRANKLIN:  In Pharsalia [Chenango Co., NY], 19th inst., Almon M. Franklin, aged 21 years.
