Frank P. Gibson

Died January 27, 1939, Norwich, NY

Following a brief illness, the death of Frank P. Gibson occurred early Friday at the Chenango Memorial Hospital [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].  Mr. Gibson, who resided at 148 East Main street, was 80 years of age.  He was a native of Greene [Chenango Co., NY] where he was born Dec. 25, 1858, but had resided in Norwich for the past 60 years.  Well and favorably known, he was employed for a period of 58 years by the N.Y.O.&W. R.R. as a carpenter and bridge builder.  He retired in July, 1937, and until his death maintained his wide acquaintance and popularity in railroad circles.  He was a member of the Eagles, the O. and W. Veterans Association and also Emmanuel Episcopal church. Besides his wife, Mrs. Anna Williams Gibson, there survive five grandchildren, Varley Gibson, Mrs. Jack VanName, Louis and Rolland Johnson, all of Norwich and Mrs. Richard Williams of Binghamton; one niece, Mrs. Linn Brigham of Preston, also one great grandchild. Funeral services are to be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in Emmanuel Episcopal church with the rector, Rev. Lloyd S. Carters, officiating. Burial will be made in the family plot at Mt. Hope cemetery. The body will rest at the George J. Devine Funeral Home on South Broad street until the hour of the service, where friends wishing to call are invited to do so at any time.

Carl Genter

Died April 10, 1940, Norwich, NY

Carl Genter, 17, former King Settlement [Chenango Co., NY] resident, seriously burned in an automobile accident November 24, last, died at the Chenango Memorial Hospital here Wednesday afternoon. The body was removed to the Breese Funeral Home awaiting funeral arrangements. The son of Mrs. Fred Genter, his death is the second tragedy to strike that family within a comparatively short time. The youth was given several blood transfusions in an effort to save his life. A passenger in a car with his brother, the young man suffered first and second degree burns when the car was ditched as a tire blew out. An explosion of the gasoline tank sent flaming liquid over his body and burns resulted from the waist down.  On the night of March 9, his father, Fred Genter, distracted by the prolonged suffering of his son, ended his life in the kitchen of the family home, by shooting. Funeral arrangements for the young man have not been completed. Besides his mother he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Donald, residing in Arkansas; Bernice, Russell, Helen and George Genter.

Dr. Kasson Church Gibson

Norwich Sun, December 28, 1925

Dr. Kasson Church Gibson, brother of S.J. Gibson of this city, died suddenly at his home in New York Christmas day. Dr. Gibson, who was 75 years of age, was seldom if ever ill and had been in excellent health of late.  He was a dentist by profession and had practiced in New York for more than 50 years.  He was considered a skillful dentist, and had specialized on fractures of the jaw bone.  His patients numbered many prominent and professional men in New York, among them being the late Grover Cleveland.  Dr. Gibson was born in South New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], the son of Dr. and Mrs. Stanford C. and Sarah Chruch Gibson. Early in life he went to new York to study dentistry.  He was a personal and intimate friend of the late Dr. J. Bryant.  Dr. Gibson was first married to Grace Beardsley of New Berlin, who died several years ago.  An only son Edwin Bryant Gibson died in infancy. For his second wife, Dr. Gibson married Grace Smith in New York, and she survives. Besides the brother named there also survive two sisters, Mattie Thompson of Silver street, and Mrs. Nettie Eccleston of Whitesboro, and a half brother, Prin. Charles Gibson of the Theodore Roosevelt junior high school in Syracuse.  Funeral services were held Monday and were privately conducted.

Chenango American, February 11, 1864

At Abington, Mass., suddenly, on the 28th ult., after a lingering illness, Jennie E. [Peirce], wife of the late Wm. T.G. Peirce, fo Boston, and daughter of Weston Holcomb, Esq., of this village, aged 35 years.

We know that thou art dwelling,

In Smithville [Chenango Co., NY], on the 3d inst., of scarlet fever, Hiram Eugene [Stratton], only child of Thomas J. and Ruth I. Stratton, aged 3 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
