Chenango Telegraph, Norwich, NY, September 30, 1863
Sad Case: A young man named William E. Carl died at the National Hotel in this village on Sunday, 20th, of typhoid fever, after an illness of but a few days. He was a stranger, was poor, and his remains was cared for by the town. His father is a man of some wealth, and lives at Candor, Tioga county. the fact of the case were telegraphed to him on Monday, but no answer being returned, the body was buried on Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday the friends of the deceased reached here, and the body was taken from the ground and conveyed to Candor. The dispatch did not reach its destination until late on Tuesday afternoon. The delay in its transmission caused the friends of the deceased much suffering.

Died: At Folly Island, near Charleston, recently, Mr. Nathan Blencoe of the 114th Reg. formerly of Bainbridge, aged 38 years.
Died: In McDonough, on the 18th inst., Emily D. [Steere], wife of Cyrus E. Steere, aged 38 years.
