Vital Records, Greene, NY - October 1863

 Chenango Telegraph, Norwich, NY, September 30, 1863

Sad Case:  A young man named William E. Carl died at the National Hotel in this village on Sunday, 20th, of typhoid fever, after an illness of but a few days.  He was a stranger, was poor, and his remains was cared for by the town.  His father is a man of some wealth, and lives at Candor, Tioga county.  the fact of the case were telegraphed to him on Monday, but no answer being returned, the body was buried on Tuesday afternoon.  On Wednesday the friends of the deceased reached here, and the body was taken from the ground and conveyed to Candor.  The dispatch did not reach its destination until late on Tuesday afternoon. The delay in its transmission caused the friends of the deceased much suffering.

Married:  In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on the 1st inst. by Rev. A.N. Benedict, Mr. J.H. Latham to Miss Frances L. Randall, all of Norwich.

Married:  In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on the 1st inst. by Rev. A.N. Benedict, Mr. John H. Currier to Miss Arvilla L. Sanford, of Georgetown, Madison Co. [NY].

Died:  At his residence, in Virgil [Cortland Co., NY], on the 12th ult., William Benton, aged 48 years.

Died:  In Coventry [Chenango Co., NY], on the 7th inst., Mrs. Desire Pickett, aged 71 years.

Died:  At Union Mills, Erie Co. Pen,., Sept. 15th, Lucy [Agard], wife of Dr. J.C. Agard, son of Erastus Agard, Esq., of Smithville Flats [Chenango Co., NY].

Died:  In Pharsalia [Chenango Co., NY], on the 15th inst., of consumption, Mrs. Harriet Browning, wife of Halsey Browning, aged 34? years.

Died:  In McDonough [Chenango Co., NY], on the 15th inst., of diptheria, Laura Libbie [Ackley], youngest daughter of Chas. T. and Laura E. Ackley, aged 3 years 3 months and 9 days.

Died:  In Hospital at Beaufort, S.C. on the 1st inst. Mr. Bonaparte Tucker of Pharsalia [Chenango Co., NY], a member of Co. E, 8th Reg. N.Y.S.V.

Died:  In Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], on the 16th inst., Mr. William H. Keech, aged 22 years.

Died:  At Baton Rouge, La. on the 11th ult. Mr. Samuel S. Sheldon of 161st Reg. of East Guilford [Chenango Co., NY].

Died:  At Folly Island, near Charleston, recently, Mr. Nathan Blencoe of the 114th Reg. formerly of Bainbridge, aged 38 years.

Died:  In McDonough, on the 18th inst., Emily D. [Steere], wife of Cyrus E. Steere, aged 38 years.
