In this town [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], on the 29th ult. Mrs. Eliza Elnora [Smith], wife of James H. Smith, Esq., aged 40 years. [June 6, 1849]

In Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], on the 25th ult. Mrs. Juliaette [Gardiner] wife of Daniel S. Gardiner, aged 20 years. [June 6, 1849]

At San Antonio de Rexar, Texas, on the 28th of April last, of cholera, Mr. Heman Cogswell, formerly of Cortland [Cortland Co., NY], aged 35 years. [June 6, 1849]

In Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], on the 5th inst. Mrs. Polly Sherwood, wife of Hezekiah Sherwood, aged 58 years.  Mrs. S. was highly esteemed for her many excellent qualities, not only by her relatives but by all her acquaintances.  For years she had been a Christian, both in faith and practice.  She bore a lingering and painful illness with unusual fortitude and patience and was not only willing but anxious to depart and be with Christ, while she retained her reason.  Her last words were, "Take me Lord, take me, Lord." and she died as she lived, believing without a doubt in the final restitution of all things which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets, since the world began.  [June 13, 1949]
