Golden Wedding: There are times and circumstances in life when neighbors and friends come together which so strongly and beautifully develop the nobler aspirations of the soul, that they make bright and lasting impressions upon the mind and give us faith in human nature. Such a season we enjoyed July 3d, 1872, at North Pitcher [Chenango Co. NY], on the occasion of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the wedding day of David P. Eldridge and Betsey West. They have lived in the society in which they were married, loved and respected by all, a fact which was pleasantly manifested by all present. Two couples were there who attended their wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Smith of Pitcher, and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hyde of Cattaraugus Co. Mr. Hyde made some pleasant remarks in relation to their wedding. Mr. and Mrs. C. West of Madison Co. the only surviving brother of Mrs. E., were there to participate in the festivities of the reunion of the family. The weather was extremely warm, but the guests were made very comfortable by the erection of a green bower adjoining the house and seated for the day. Tokens of love and esteem found expression in the presents which were freely bestowed, amounted to one hundred and eighty-five dollars, all in cash except twenty-six. The presentation to the happy pair was made by their son, the Rev. E.P. Eldridge, of the Wyoming Conference, in a speech full of love to his aged parents, who gracefully thanked those present for their kind regard to his father and mother as manifested in the gifts bestowed, and asked Heaven's blessing upon them. Rev. A. C. Smith then addressed them in congratulation of their long and happy journey thus far in life, amid such friends as these surrounding them, and true and faithful sons ever ready to attend to the calls of their venerated parents, and of the glorious future that awaits them. Though there were three vacant seats in the family circle, he trusted there might not be in that upper and better home. Both addresses were replete with the spirit of the master and love to their brother man. All the sons with their wives were at home to make glad the hearts of their loved and devoted parents. The entire family are good singers, and with the aid of Miss E.J Smith and A.D. Eldridge upon the organ, the company were highly entertained with good music, and when they sang, "All together once again," it was rendered as only the Eldridge family can sing it. It filled all hearts present with pure and holy joy in contemplation of that better home beyond the stars. The repast was splendid, full to overflowing, and those that partook of the bounty will long remember its completeness. It was a scene not soon to be forgotten to look upon the smiling faces and sparkling eyes which so plainly expressed the spirit of the great Teacher. May the happy couple that called us together on that delightful occasion live many years to enjoy the society of children and friends, and so live that at each setting sun they may say, "All is well," and feel that they are:
Nearer our Father's house, / Where the many mansions be, / Nearer the great white throne, / Nearer the crystal sea.
And so, beside the silent son, / We wait the muffled oar, / No harm from him can come to us, / On ocean or on shore.

PUDNEY: In Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY], July 14, Mrs. Elinor Pudney, relict of Luther Pudney, aged 94 years and 8 months. Mrs. Pudney had been a resident of North Norwich 55 years. She took supper with the family about 5 o'clock and died about 6.
ANDREWS: In Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY], July 14, Carrie N. [Andrews], only daughter of Mrs. N. Andrews aged 23 years.
WALWORTH: In Sterling, Cayuga County [NY], Mr. Chas. Walworth, aged 64 years.
SHERMAN: In Otselic [Chenango Co. NY], June 25th, Barba Sherman, in the 61st year of her age, wife of John Sherman.
STOPPARD: In Smithville [Chenango Co. NY] July 4th, Mr. James Stoppard, aged 71 years.

BENNETT: In Scranton, Penn., July 18th, Carrie E. [Bennett], daughter of A.B. and M.R. Bennett, aged 6 months and 4 days.
BAKER: In Oneida [Madison Co. NY], on the 3d inst. Mrs. Sophia Baker, wife of the late Madison Baker of Utica [Oneida Co. NY], and mother of Mrs. Erastus Gordon, of this village, aged 63 years.
BOWEN: In German [Chenango Co. NY], of inflammation of the lungs, Mr. Nelson Bowen, aged 59 years.
It is with feelings of deep regret that we are called upon to announce the death of our beloved father, Nelson Bowen, who died June 25th, 1872. He was born in 1813, being 58 years of age. His father was a native of Rhode Island, and moved to German, about the year 1816. After remaining here some time, he moved to Cincinnatus, Cortland Co., where he died in 1844. The deceased, Nelson Bowen, has made the two last mentioned towns his home from boyhood up. He moved on to the old homestead, one mile east of German Corners, in 1856, where he had toiled hard and industriously for sixteen years. He has always dealt uprightly and honestly with his fellow man, ever ready to help those who were in need of help, as far as lay in his power, and was in every respect an honest and upright man. During the past few years, he has given considerable attention to writing both poetry and prose. Of the former he has become quite noted. But at last, the messenger of death came and relieved him of his toils and troubles. It is with sad hearts and tearful eyes, when the family circle has come together at evening, under the old parental roof, or as they gather around the festal board, to see the chair which was once filled by a smiling father surrounded by a happy group of mirthful children, vacant. His death casts a gloom over the entire community. He was a kind husband and a loving father. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his much-regretted loss. W.N.B.

In Coventry [Chenango Co. NY], July 4th, Georgianna [Patterson], aged 6 years 9 months 11 days; July 17th L. Adelaide [Patterson] aged 3 years 4 months 15 days, children of Smith B. and E.J. Patterson.
We briefly noticed the death of Beriah C. Gilmore, in our last issue. Mr. Gilmore was born in Coventry, Chenango County, N.Y. Aug. 7, 1818, and lived there till in March 1869, when he came to this county and resided here until March last, when he moved on his farm in Tama County. His health failing him he returned to Marshalltown, and on Saturday June 1, he passed from earth into the "bourne from which no traveler returns." He early became a member of the Baptist church and lived the life of a Christian. He was known only to be loved and respected by all with whom he associated. He leaves a wife, son, and three daughters, and many friends to mourn his loss. The sympathy of his friends is extended to his family, who have lost a kind and affectionate husband and father. Mrs. Susan Stockwell, wife of Raymond Stockwell, of this village [Bainbridge, Chenango Co. NY], died suddenly on Sunday morning last. She leaves a husband and nine children. and many friends to mourn her loss. The sympathies of our whole community are with the bereaved.
George Whitney, son of Walter Whitney, about 15 years of age, was drowned on Sudnya last while bathing in the river about three miles below this village Otego Record.
