White Store, Chenango Co. NY: Died in Labette City, Kansas, Friday P.M. November 15th, 1878, from injuries received from a runaway team, Mr. John Forsyth aged about 38 years.
Mr. Forsyth was a brother of C. Forsyth of this place. A letter received last week by C. Forsyth contains the following particulars concerning the death of his brother. "On the morning of the 15th (Friday), Mr. Forsyth hitched his team which were high-lived, and which had been idle for several days, to the wagon to haul a load of straw. Mr. Freeman, with whom he had been staying for some three years and whose daughter he was soon to wed, cautioned him to be careful of the team, and advised him to unhitch them while loading the straw as they might run away. Mr. Forsyth did as advised, hitched the team again to the wagon and had started when the team sprag into a run, pulling him down in front of the wagon, behind the team, receiving the injuries from which he died. The injuries were received internally, and it is unknown whether they were caused by the kicks of the team or by being run over by the wagon. There were no external marks to be found. The accident occurred about 7 A.M., Mr. Forsyth dying at about 2 o'clock P.M. of the same day."
