Marriages (June 29)

The marriage of Mrs. Helen Knapp, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], and David A. Thomas, of Rockdale [Chenango Co., NY], was solemnized Sunday afternoon, May 30, at 5 o'clock at the Oak Street parsonage in Binghamton by the Rev William Heapps.  The couple was attended by Richard Hoyt, E 3/C, of the U.S. Navy, and Mrs. Hoyt, of Endicott. Friends and relatives present were Marcia Hoyt, Mrs. Arthur Hoyt and Mr. and Mrs. Delphin Hoyt.  The party had a wedding dinner at the Barn after which the couple left for a short trip to Syracuse.  Mr. and Mrs. Thomas at present are making their home in Bainbridge.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, June 10, 1943]
 
A pretty wedding took place on Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pfeil, at Guilford [Chenango Co., NY], when their daughter, Dorothy Lana Pfeil, became the bride of Emery A. Hutchinson, of Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY].  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. James W. Bump, of Guilford, under a beautifully decorated arch.  The couple were attended by Mrs. Lewis Pfeil as bridesmaid while Donald Hutchinson acted as best man for his brother.  The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was beautiful in a white silk jersey, street length dress with white accessories and carried a prayer book.  Her corsage was of white sweet peas centered with one red rose.  Her attendant, Mrs. Lewis Pfeil, wore aqua jersey with white accessories and her corsage was pink roses.  The bride's mother wore Navy blue print with matching accessories  Her corsage was of red talisman roses.  Mrs. Hutchinson, mother of the groom, wore green print.  Her corsage was of orchid sweet peas.  Before the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Earl Oldfield, accompanied by Mrs. Stuart B. Ives, sang "I Love You Truly."  Mr. Oldfield sang "O Promise Me."  After the reception at the bride's home, the happy couple left for a short wedding trip.  They will be at home after June 14 at their newly furnished apartment on Mechanic street, Guilford.  Both are employed at the American Separator Co., Bainbridge.  The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson extend congratulations to them and best wishes for happiness through the years to come.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, June 17, 1943]
 
A quiet home wedding was solemnized under a beautiful arch of ferns and spires when Miss Evelyn M. Livingston, daughter of Mr. ad Mrs. Melvin H. Livingston, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], became the bride of the Rev. Andrew J. Whitney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitney, of Bennettsville [Chenango Co., NY], Saturday afternoon, June 12, at 2 o'clock.  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Russell D. Gunsalus, Dean of Theology, Allentown Bible Institute, Allentown, Pa.  Preceding the ceremony, George Terwilliger, of Sidney, accomplished pianist, played "Farewell to the Piano," by Beethoven, and the Rev. George Puffenbarger, of Allentown, Pa., sang "Because," accompanied by Mr. Terwilliger.  The bridal party entered with the playing of the "Bridal Chorus" from "Lohengrin."  At the close of the ceremony, the Rev. and Mrs. Whitney knelt in consecration as the Rev. Puffenbarger sang, "Together Life's Pathway We Tread."  The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was charming in a white satin gown, with short train with lace insertion, and a finger-tip veil caught in a tiara of orange blossoms.  She carried a white Bible and a shower bouquet of white roses and white button mums.  Miss Ruth Willson, of Athens, Pa. a former schoolmate of the bride, was maid of honor.  she wore pink crepe with a tiara to match and carried red roses.  Mrs. Beatrice Gardner, of East Guilford, sister of the bridegroom, who was bride's maid, wore blue taffeta with matching tiara and she also carried red roses.  Leland Whitney, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Vernon Livingston, brother of the bride, acted as usher.  The bride's mother was attired in a chiffon print while the bridegroom's mother wore blue crepe, and both wore corsages of yellow roses.  After the ceremony luncheon was served on the lawn to approximately 50 relatives and friends by the Misses Alta McAtee and Pearl Martsalf, of Endicott.  The waitresses wore dusty pink street length dresses with white caps and aprons.  The Rev. and Mrs. Whitney were the recipients of many useful as well as beautiful gifts.  Both the Rev. and Mrs. Whiney are graduates of Bainbridge Central High School.  The bride also graduated form the Allentown Bible Institute in 1942 as valedictorian of her class while the Rev. Mr. Whitney graduated from the same institute in 1943 as valedictorian of his class.. The happy couple will be at home to their many friends after July 1, at Toddsville where the Rev. Mr. Whitney has accepted a pastorate.  He is also supplying at Cherry Valley.  [Bainbridge News & Republican,  June 14, 1943] 
 
Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Vawter, of 17 Juliand street [Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY], announce the engagement of their daughter, Anne Mary, to Technical Sergeant Edward Lawrence Peckham, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Peckham, of Bainbridge.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, June 17, 1943]
