Agnes Murphy

Died April 24, 1941, Norwich, NY

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  Miss Agnes Murphy, 57, of 61 Rexford Street, Norwich, died at the Chenango Memorial Hospital last night about midnight.  Born in McDonough [Chenango Co., NY] the deceased had been a resident of Norwich for the past 35 years. She was a member of the Rosary and Altar Societies of St. Paul's Church, the auxiliary to the A.O.H. and the League of the Sacred Heart.  She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ella Keeley and Mrs. Sarah Wood of Norwich and Mrs. Harry Sanford of Arcade, also two brothers, Andrew W. and Matthew D. Murphy, both of Norwich. The funeral will be held from the family residence on Rexford Street Monday morning at 9 o'clock and from St. Paul's at 9:30 with burial in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Oxford [Chenango Co., NY].

George W. Burkett

Died April 24, 1941, McDonough, NY

George W. Burkett, 80, who lived alone near the McDonough [Chenango Co., NY] CCC camp, was found dead in bed at his home Saturday noon by Claude Stiles, Oxford rural mail carrier. Stiles had not seen the aged man for two days.  He was alarmed because of this, made an investigation, finding Burkett expired.  Undertaker Fred W. Seymour of Oxford accompanied by --G. Boname coroner, and Dr. Hall of Oxford went to the Burkett home Saturday afternoon and the body was brought to the Seymour Funeral Home, where services are to be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, daylight time, burial in McDonough.  Coroner Boname gave as the cause of death the infirmities of old age coupled with a heart condition. The deceased leaves several brothers and sisters none of whom reside in this vicinity.

Edward Murphy

Died March 22, 1940, Norwich, NY

Edward Murphy of 61 Rexford street passed away at the Chenango Memorial Hospital at 9:50 Wednesday night aged 68 years.  The deceased was born in McDonough [Chenango Co., NY], August 6, 1871, but had been a resident of Norwich for about 35 years.  For many years Mr. Murphy was a valued employee of the O.&W. shops and for a period of 18 years he was employed as a machinist at the Borden plant in this city. For the past nine years he had been engaged with his brother, Andrew, in farming in East Norwich.  He was well liked by all who knew him and general regret will be expressed at his death. There survive two brothers, Andrew W. and Mathew D., both of Norwich; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Keeley, Mrs. Sarah Wood, Mrs. Harry Sanford and Miss Agnes Murphy of Norwich. The body was removed to the late home on Rexford street Thursday afternoon where friends may call after 6 p.m.  Prayer services will be held at the late home at 9:30 Saturday morning and a service of absolution will take place in the vestibule of St. Paul's church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning.  Committal services will take place in Mt. Hope chapel, and burial will be made in Oxford [Chenango Co., NY] in the spring. A high mass of requiem will be held at St. Paul's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning. Friends are requested to meet at the late home at 8:30 Friday night to recite the rosary.

Joseph G. Murphy

Died September 15, 1938, Norwich, NY 

Following an extended illness the death of Joseph G. Murphy, World War veteran, occurred Friday morning at his home, 63 Rexford street [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].  Born in this city May 27, 1890, the son of Edward and Mary O'Donnell Murphy, he had spent practically his entire life here. Educated in the Norwich schools, Mr. Murphy later lived for a few years in Utica and Frankfort.  Widely known in his native city, his death is a source of regret to many friends. By trade he was a plumber and steamfitter and for 25 years was associated in that capacity with the Charles G. Nash plumbing store.  Mr. Murphy served his country in the World War in the naval aviation branch of the service.  He was a member of St. Paul's church and the Holy Name Society of that church. Besides his wife, Nellie Finster Murphy, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Murphy and three sisters, Miss Catherine Murphy and Mrs. E.J. Thomas of this city and Mrs. F.E. Boyce of Manchester, New Hampshire.  Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the George J. Devine Funeral Home and at 9:30 from St. Paul's church where the pastor, Rev. Father Charles M. Coveney will officiate. Burial will be made in the family plot at St. Paul's cemetery [Norwich, NY].

Mary O'Donnell Murphy

Died April 1, 1943, Norwich, NY

Mrs. Mary O'Donnell Murphy, 82, died suddenly about 11:30 Saturday morning at her home, 65 Rexford street [Norwich, Chenango Co NY].  In ill health for a long time she had shown improvement of late. The end came suddenly and is a shock to the members of her family and a wide circle of friends.  Mrs. Murphy was born Dec. 13, 1860 on Guernsey street in this city, the daughter of Kathryn Marlarkey O'Donnell and Martin O'Donnell. She was untied in marriage in January, 1884, to Edward Murphy, who died in 1903.  The deceased had been almost a life long resident of Norwich with the exception of nine years in Preston. She had been a resident of Rexford street for the past 45 years.  Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Paul's church, the Rosary Society and the League of Sacred Heart of that church. She was devoted to church and family, and her kindly and neighborly nature endeared her to many friends who will regret her passing.  Her fine sense of humor together with conversation ability earned her the friendship of many who will long remember her for her many fine qualities of womanhood.  There survive three daughters, Mrs. E.J. Thomas and Miss Kathryn Murphy of this city and Mrs. F.E. Boyce of Manchester, N.H.  She also leaves a sister, Miss Ella O'Donnell of Binghamton, two grandsons, one granddaughter and several nephews and nieces  Services are to be held at the Robert J. Fahy Funeral home on North Broad street at 9:10 Tuesday morning and at 9:30 in St. Paul's church, where a high mass of requiem will be celebrated.  Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery [Norwich, NY].
