Judge S.S. Bowne
Hon. S.S. Bowne, whose health had been feeble for a year past, died at his residence in Morris [Otsego Co., NY] on Sunday last. He was about seventy years of age, and had filled many responsible public positions having represented this country in the legislature in 1834, and this district in Congress in 1841-3. He was elected County Judge in 1851. He also held the position of Deputy Collector of the port of New York under Mr. Schell. Judge Bowne was a man of many noble and generous impulses, of decided ability, an able debater and advocate before a jury, and was widely known as a lawyer and active politician for many years. Mr. Darling the father of D.H. Darling of this place [Guilford, Chenango Co., NY], died at the home of his daughter near Holmesville [Chenango Co., NY], and the remains were brought here Saturday evening. The funeral was attended at the M.E. church at 11 a.m. Monday.
On Tuesday news was received by friends here [Guilford, Chenango Co., NY] of the death of S.H. Bush, an aged and much respected resident of the town of Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], and where he has passed the years of a long and useful life, being in his 94th year. The funeral will be attended at his late home at 1 p.m. on Friday.
