Thus, one of our oldest and most respected citizens has finished his course.  With slow and declining steps, he has descended to the grave, following after a few brief months his beloved partner to that silent bourn.  Mr. Hoyt was one of the oldest residents of this village.  He came here from Delaware county [NY] in 1821 and has uniformly borne an elevated position in society.  He was a devoted champion of elevated Christian principles, and as an official member of the Congregational Church, has left a record of faith, hope and charity which is worthy of remembrance and imitation of all who knew him.  His large family are among the most respected in our vicinity and will long cherish his examples and his Christian precepts. They have lost an honored parent, the church an ornamented pillar, and community an honest man. "the noblest work of God."  Peace to his memory.

In this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 1st inst., Mr. John E. Hovey, aged 55 years.

In this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], suddenly, on the 1st inst., Mr. Wm. R. Cehoon, aged 64 years.

In East Greene [Chenango Co., NY], on the 27th ult., Mr. Hiram Bartoo, aged 66 years.

In C henango Forks [Broome Co., NY], on the 1st inst., Mrs. Rachel Haynes, aged 54 years.

Sudden Death:  We regret to be called upon this week to announce the death of Mrs. Erastus Dickinson, which took place at Camanche, Iowa, on the 18th inst.  It was only last week that we noticed the departure of Esq., Dickinson and his wife, to the far west, and this week we are called upon to announce the death of Mrs. D.  She died, as we are informed, the next day after her arrival at her new home, aged 69 years.  She was a most esteemed Christian woman.  "What shadows we are and what shadows we pursue."  Cattaraugus Union

There are many of our readers who remember the worthy lady whose death is recorded in the above notice.  In the spring of 1847 Judge Dickinson came to this town with his family from Guilford [Chenango Co., NY].  In the spring of 1848, he came to reside in this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], and in 1849 he removed to Ellicottsville, Cattaraugus County [NY] where he and family have resided until within a few weeks, whence he removed to Iowa as above.  Mrs. Dickinson was a member of the Episcopal Church while residing in this place, and most worthily adorned a true Christian life. She was most loved by those who knew her best. The reward that awaits the faithful servant of Christ was the source of hope that buoyed her up through many changes and misfortunes that came upon her husband, and amidst all trials assured her of a blissful immortality.
