Dr. DeForest Whitmarsh
Died June 25, 1956

Dr. DeForest Whitmarsh

Dr. DeForest Whitmarsh, orthodontist who had practiced here for the last 26 years, died of a blood stream infection in City Hospital at 5:55 a.m. today.  He was 60.  Dr. Whitmarsh, whose office and home were at 49 Front Street, was a past president of the Broome County and the Sixth District dental societies.  He had entered the hospital June 13.  He attended Colgate university and was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry.  He also was graduated from the Dewey School of Orthodontia, New York City.  Dr. Whitmarsh was a certified member of the American Board of Orthodontics, a fellow of the Academy International of Dentistry, a member of the North-eastern Society of Orthodontists and of the Strang-Tweed Study Group.  He was a member of the Binghamton Club, the Binghamton Chamber of Commerce and West Presbyterian Church.  He was president of the Silver Lake Association.  Funeral services will be conducted at the Prentice Funeral Home, 55 Main Street, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Samuel Colman, pastor of the West Presbyterian Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery.  Representatives of the Broome County Sixth District dental societies will be honorary pallbearers.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace B. Whitmarsh, his father, Dr. Herbert Whitmarsh; a son, Dr. Stewart B. Whitmarsh, all of Binghamton; a daughter, Mrs. Frank M. Coyne of Madison, Wis; two grandchildren, Melanie Louise and Brenda Ellen Coyne; a sister, Mrs. Earl Valley of Binghamton.

Frank M. Bradley
Died July 28, 1959
Frank M. Bradley, 76, of Star Route, Windsor [Broome Co., NY], died suddenly Monday morning in Afton [Chenango Co., NY].  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Bradley of Star Route, Windsor; four sons, Frank Bradley of Wappinger Falls, Arthur Bradley of Port Crane, Allen and Charles Bradley, both of East Windsor; six daughters, Mrs. Mildred McCabe of Wappinger Falls, the Misses Barbara, Donna, Eleanor, Gloria and Florence Bradley, all of East Windsor; a brother, Walter Bradley of LeGrangeville, NY; a grandson, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Mr. Bradley was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.  The body was removed to the Osterhoudt Funeral Home, Harpursville.  

Walter Gager
Died April 15, 1956
Owego:  Walter Gager, 62, who has cared for the horses of Charles Sibley of Binghamton since he was 13 years of age, died suddenly tonight, in a stall which he occupied at the Tioga County fairgrounds.  The man suffered some sort of an attack, and called to a passing child who ran to the trailer home of Mrs. Walter Huston on the fairgrounds, who notified the police.  Dr. Jack Bailey was called and pronounced the man dead on arrival at the fairgrounds.  Death occurred about 6:05 pm.  Mr. Gager's father had been a horse trainer before him for many years.  There are no surviving relatives so far as is known tonight.

Bernice A. Holcomb
Died August 3, 1955
Mrs. Bernice A. Holcomb, 77, of 12 Bromley Avenue, died at 5 pm Wednesday.  She is survived by her husband, Edwin F. Holcomb; a son, Clifford Holcomb of Roselle, N.J.; a daughter, Miss Rhea Holcomb of Binghamton.  She was a member of the Afton Episcopal Church, Afton, and of Afton lodge, OES.  The body was moved to the Hopler & Georgia Funeral home, 483 Chenango Street.

Edward L. Parsons
Died January 16, 1956
Edward L. Parsons, for many years associated with the plastics plant in Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], died Monday afternoon, Jan. 16, 1956 at Sidney Hospital [Delaware Co. NY],  He was 46.  Mr. Parsons was born at Bainbridge May 26, 1909.  He had lived there all his life.  Surviving besides his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Bly Parsons, is a daughter, Miss Virginia Parsons of Schenectady; a son, Bruce, of Bainbridge; his mother, Mrs. Emma Parsons and four brothers, Harry, Robert and Merritt, all of Bainbridge, and Martin of Penfield.  Services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 from the Sherman funeral home in Bainbridge.  Rev. Ruthven Chambers officiated.

Married March 17, 1943
Mrs. Rose Capeleana announces the marriage of her daughter, Theresa Evelyn [Capeleana] to William A. Alber on March 17, 1943.  The couple left Friday on an extended wedding trip to Washington, D.C. and New York.

Miss Vera Mabel Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ross of the Chenango lake road [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY] became the bride of John Ivar Almstedt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John O. Almstedt of South New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY] at one o'clock Saturday in Emmanuel Episcopal church [Norwich, NY], Rev. L.S. Charters, rector, performing the ceremony.  Attending the couple was Miss Florence Cooley of Norwich and Albert F.O. Almstedt, of New Berlin, brother of the groom.  The bride was charming in a street gown of soldier blue with dark blue accessories and her corsage was of white roses.  Her attendant chose a wine colored street dress with navy blue accessories and her corsage was also of white roses.  Following a reception at the home of the bride's parents Mr. Almstedt and his bride left for a wedding trip to Washington D.C. and other southern points.  They will reside in South New Berlin.

Almstedt - Cole

Miss Margaret E. Cole, daughter of Mrs. Fred Cole of Sauquoit [Oneida Co. NY], and Albert F. Almstedt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John O. Almstedt of South New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], were united in marriage at the bride's home, Saturday, August 29. Rev. Henry Bridge, pastor of the Saquoit Methodist church officiated.  The couple were attended by Mrs. Monroe Dixson of Edmeston and Ivar Almstedt, brother of the groom. The bride wore a wine colored street dress and a corsage of white roses.  Mrs. Dixson wore a hunter green dress and a corsage of talisman roses. The mother of the bride was dressed in navy blue and white and the groom's mother wore black and white.  Both wore gladioli corsages.  Mrs. Amstedt is a graduate of Sauquoit high school and the Utica Memorial Hospital nurses training school.  She is a school nurse in Otsego school, Edmeston.  Mr. Almstedt is a graduate of the South New Berlin school and also of New York State College for Teachers at Albany. A reception was held in the bride's home which was decorated with gladioli and other late summer flowers.  Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Almstedt left for a short wedding trip after which they will reside in South New Berlin.

Alger - Telford

Miss Jean M. Telford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.  Charles Telford of this village, and Ward Talbot Alger, son of Mrs. Beatrice Alger of Leonardsville [Madison Co., NY] were married Saturday, November 7, at the Baptist parsonage in West Winfield.  The Rev. H.M. Quiney, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated. The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Larrabee, sister and brother-in-law of the groom, of West Winfield. The bride is a graduate of Edmeston High School, class of 1931 and of the Utica School of Commerce class of 1933.  She has been employed as secretary in the law office of U.G. Welch for the past three years. The bridegroom received his education in the Leonardsville schools and has for the past eight years held a responsible position with his uncle, E.C. Talbot in Leonardsville.

Dr. Clayton M. Axtell, Sr.
February 24, 1886 - November 25, 1958

Dr. Clayton M. Axtell, Sr., for 43 years a physician in the Village of Deposit [Delaware Co., NY], died shortly before 3 o'clock this morning at City Hospital.  He was 72.  He had been in the hospital since Thursday, when he suffered a heart attack upon returning to his office after visiting a patient.  Dr. Axtell had conducted a general medical practice in Deposit since 1915.  He was a 1909 graduate of the Cornell University School of Medicine and came to Deposit after practicing in Sidney and Sidney Center.  Among his survivors is Clayton M. Axtell, Jr., a Binghamton attorney and resident of Hillcrest. Dr. Axtell was this year's and last year's candidate of the Broome County Medical Society for designation as the outstanding general practitioner in New York State.  Last June he was honored by the Deposit Community Council, which he has served as a director, for long service to the community.  He was born Feb. 24, 1886, in Barbourville, N.Y., the son of a farmer and one time Republican assemblyman, Delos Axtell.  He was graduated from Deposit High School in 1904. Upon completion of medical school he was an intern for two years at New York City's Bellevue Hospital, where he became a senior assistant and house surgeon.  He was named a state health officer in 1912, a post which he retained for the remainder of his career working principally in the village of Deposit and the Town of Sanford.  Dr. Axtell's home and office were at 195 Front Street in the village.  He was a member of the County Medical Society, the New York State Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the Binghamton Academy of Medicine.  He was on the courtesy staff of Read Memorial Hospital, Hancock.  Dr. Axtell was a past master of Deposit Lodge 396, F&AM, and was a member of Kalurah Shrine and Malta Commandery 21.  He had served as a director of Deposit Rotary Club, Broome County Chapter of the American Medical Society, a member of the Kalurah Shrine in Binghamton; a member of the Deposit Rotary club, the Community council and was a past commander of the American Legion, having served in World War I as battalion surgeon.  He was also a member of the Malta Commandery, a member of the Binghamton Academy of Medicine and was on the courtesy staff of Read Memorial hospital at Hancock.  He was a local surgeon for the Erie Railroad and was a member of the Broome County Medical Society, the New York State Medical society and the American Medical Association.  He had been a director of the Broome County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Deposit Student Educational Loan fund.  On June 14, Drs. Axtel and Latimer were honored at a testimonial dinner at Oquaga Lake, sponsored by the Deposit Community council.

George L. Beemer

George L. Beemer, 71, of Endicott RD2 [Broome Co., NY] died at 4:15 a.m. today at Binghamton City Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna L. Beemer; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Shepherd of Owego; a son, Milton Beemer of Oriskany Falls; a granddaughter, Linda Diane Shepherd of Owego; a grandson, Hugh J. Beemer of Oriskany Falls; a half brother, Joseph Beemer of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. The body was moved to the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Endicott.

Charlotte L. (Fenderson) Tyler
Died November 10, 1959
Mrs. Charlotte L. Tyler, aged 73, of 213 South Duane Ave., Endicott [Broome Co., NY] died at 3 p.m. Thursday at her home, after a long illness.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marguerite T. Allen, Mrs. Dorothy Cline, both of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Thelma Bilec of Norwich; a son Kenneth J. Tyler of Syracuse; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis Fenderson of Endicott, and a sister Mrs. Mertie Gross of Greene.  She was a life resident of Endicott and a member of the Central Methodist Church of Endicott. The body was removed to the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main St., Endicott, where the funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.  The Rev. Russell Hawke will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott.

Russell C. Quackenbush
December 11, 1890 - December 21, 1959
Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY]:  Russell C Quackenbush, 69, died at his home on the Unadilla-Franklin road Monday, Dec. 21, where he had resided for the past five years.  Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Joyce funeral home, Unadilla, with Rev. Glenn McCarthy, pastor officiating.  Burial was in Woodland cemetery, Delhi [Delaware Co., NY].  He was born Dec. 11, 1890, in Spring Valley [Rockland Co., NY], the son of Calvin and Emma (Plynes) Quackenbush.  He married Miss Ethel McFarland Oct. 6, 1919, in Sidney.  Mr. Quackenbush came to Unadilla from Sidney.  he was a member of the Congregational church of Sidney, and was a member of the Masonic order.  He was a trustee of the church, served as village trustee in Sidney, and was chairman of the Delaware county Infantile Paralysis Organization for several years.  He was a former member of the 7th Regiment New York city.  He is survived by his wife; his mother; two brothers, Kenneth of Westwood, N.J., and Leslie of Nanuet; one sister, Miss Gladys Quackenbush, Westwood, N.J.

Kittie Wheeler Buell
November 14, 1851 - February 5, 1932 (in Norwich, NY)
Mrs. Kittie Wheeler Buell, 80, died at her home, 24 Silver street [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY] Friday noon after a long illness. the deceased was born in Edmeston [Otsego Co., NY], Nov. 14, 1851 and with the exception of 10 years spent in Michigan had lived all her long life in New York state.  Mrs. Buell was a member of Broad street M.E. church and was held in high regard by all with whom she was acquainted.  She was twice married.  Her first husband was Lewis A. Sherwood.  After his death she was united in marriage with George H. Buell of Plasterville, now deceased. There survive a sister, Mrs. Ella Wheeler of Bignall, Nebraska, also several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held in Broad street M.E. church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, Rev. J.W. Nicholson officiating, with burial in Mt. Hope [Norwich, NY].

Clayton Buell
August 25, 1893 - January 23, 1939 (in Norwich, NY)
Clayton Riley Buell of Brown avenue [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], proprietor of the Buell Bakery and Buell's Recreation Center, died at the Chenango Memorial Hospital at 11:20 Monday night after an illness of about three weeks.  Mr. Buell was born in Plymouth [Chenango Co., NY] August 25, 1893, but had been a resident of Norwich for many years.  For several years he conducted Buell's Bakery on Brown avenue and for the last three years he had operated the Buell Recreation Center, a popular bowling resort.  The deceased was a member of Norwich lodge F.&A.M., was held in the highest esteem by many friends and his death will be keenly regretted by all with whom he was acquainted.  There survive his wife; his mother, Mrs. Dana Buell, and a brother, Glen Buell, all of Norwich. The remains will be at the late residence, 22 Brown avenue.  Funeral services will be held at the Breese Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, Rev. George B. Callender officiating, with burial in Mt. Hope cemetery [Norwich, NY].  Members of the Masonic lodge will meet at the Masonic temple at 7 o'clock Thursday night for the purpose of conducting a service at the late home of Mr. Buell at 7:30.  

Lee Brookins
Died January 1942 in Healdsburg, CA
Lee Brookins, father of Police Chief Lelan M. Brookins and brother of Fire Chief L.C. Brookins of this city [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], died at Healdsburg, Calif., Wednesday, according to information received in Norwich by the son.  Funeral services were held Friday.  Besides Police Chief Brookins there survive the widow and two sons, Lee and Rex of Healdsburg and a daughter, Mrs. Joy Ashdown of Oakland, Calif.  Nelson Brookins of Plymouth and Arthur Brookins of North Norwich are brothers of the deceased in addition to Fire Chief Brookins.  The late Mr. Brookins was 76 years of age.

Marjorie Arlene Brooker
December 16, 1929 - February 25, 1931
Marjorie Arlene [Brooker], 14 months old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Menzo Brooker was called from her dear home here on earth to her heavenly home on Feb. 25, 1931 at 2:30 a.m., where God and his angels will watch over her.  The deceased was born Dec. 16, 1929 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].  She was a premature baby weighing only 3 lb. and 5 oz. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Menzo Brooker resided near Chenango lake. Besides her parents she leaves to mourn her loss a grandmother, Mrs. James Bowers of North Norwich, a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.  Funeral services were held at her late home on Feb. 28, 1931.  Rev. D.H. Woodward conducted the services at 2:00 p.m., and at the grave. Interment was made at the Riverside cemetery in South new Berlin, N.Y. [Chenango Co.]

Dr. John T. Hand
Died April 8, 1914
Dr. John T. Hand, of New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], died in St. Luke's Hospital, Utica [Oneida Co., NY] Wednesday morning, following an operation for appendicitis.  He was 55 years of age, and a former resident of this village.  Funeral will be held from his late home in New Berlin, Saturday afternoon at one o'clock.

Sarah Garner
Died April 8, 1914 in South New Berlin, NY
The death of Mrs. Sarah Garner occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Bailey, on Wednesday morning, April 8, 1914, following a severe illness of pneumonia.  She was about 77 years of age and had always resided in this community. The funeral will be held from her late home on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  

Harriet Gage
Died April 7, 1914 in Binghamton, NY
Mrs. Harriet Gage, for a great many years a respected resident of this village, after an illness of several weeks passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.R. Wightman, in Binghamton, Tuesday morning, April 7, 1914, at the advanced age of 84 years. The remains were brought to this village and funeral held at the Baptist church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. L.E. Wheeler, officiating.  Interment in the family plot in Riverside cemetery. Deceased is survived by three children, Mrs. Kate Mahan, Mrs. Stephen Bailey, of this village and Mrs. A.R. Wightman, of Binghamton.

Judd-Birdsall
Married December 16, 1944
Miss Marian A. Birdsall and Justus Judd were married Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the Rev. Wilton J. Dubrick performing the ceremony. The bride wore a long dress of white satin and net with long sleeves and fingertip veil, and carried white sweet peas and roses. The matron of honor, Mrs. Arthur Crawshaw of Walton, cousin of the bride, wore a pink satin and net dress and carried pink carnations.  The best man was Merrill Snitchler of Sidney, brother-in-law of the bridegroom.  Miss Doris Hover sang "O Promise Me" and "Through the Years" with Mrs. Earl Case at the organ. A reception was held at the home of the bride's aunt, Miss Bertha Birdsall, 68 East Main street, after which the couple left for a trip to New York.  Mrs. Judd is the daughter of the late Mrs. Katherine Sager Birdsall and Archie Birdsall of Downsville and lived with her aunt, Miss Bertha Birdsall.  She was graduated from the Sidney High School and of Rochester Business school and has worked for several years in the Payroll Department of the Scintilla Magneto Division.  Mr. Judd, son of Mrs. Hazel Judd, and the late Frank Judd of Sidney, attended the Sidney school and is at present in business in Binghamton.  They will live at 130 West End avenue, Binghamton.  Two pre-nuptial showers were given the bride in Sidney.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Somerville of 5 Secor Street, Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by entertaining 128 of their friends at the Elks Club in Sidney on Saturday evening, October 20.  Friends were from Sidney, New Berlin, Delhi, Bainbridge, Windsor, Binghamton, Albany, Salt Point, Unadilla, Pittsford, Endicott, Union, Rochester, Oneonta, Stamford, Lathams, Utica, Norwich, Morris, Oxford, Kelsey, N.Y. and from Niagara, Wisconsin.

Leaving St. Patrick's rectory following ceremony performed there at 10 am. yesterday are Mr. and Mrs. Kermit H. Lewis.  Mrs. Lewis is the former Miss Mary Jane Blowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Blowers, of 25 Ayres street.


The marriage of Miss Mary Jane Blowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Blowers of 25 Ayres Street, to Sergt. Kermit H. Lewis of Presque Isle, Me., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Lewis of Afton, took place at 10 a.m. yesterday in St. Patrick's Chruch, with the Rev. D. Francis Curtin officiating.  Miss Elizabeth Kane of New York City, a former classmate at the College of New Rochelle, was maid of honor. Randolph Lewis of Afton, a cousin of the bridegroom, was best man.  The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was gowned in white organza, with a Juliet cap in which was attached a fingertip veil of tulle. She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley and gardenias.  Miss Kane wore a gown of dusty rose chiffon with a large picture hat, and carried a bouquet of pink roses and delphinium.  Mrs. Blowers, mother of the bride, wore a blue sheer gown with a corsage of pink roses, Mrs. Lewis, the bridegroom's mother, was attired in brown sheer with a corsage of yellow roses. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, after which the couple left for Presque Isle where the bridegroom is stationed with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Mable - Stanzel

On Way to Reception--Lieut. and Mrs. William P. Mable leave West Presbyterian Church after their wedding.  Mrs. Mable, the former Miss Bette Jean Stanzel, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Walter E. Stanzel, Sr., of 63 Park Street.  Lieutenant Mable is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Leon Mable of 41 Mitchell Avenue.

Before an altar banked with white delphiniums, palms and candelabra Miss Bette Jean Stanzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Stanzel, Sr., of 63 Park Street, was married Saturday afternoon to Lieut, William P.  Mable, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Leon Mable of 41 Mitchell avenue. The ceremony was solemnized at 3:30 o'clock in the West Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George W. Brown. The wedding music was played by J. Emery Kelley. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Miss Margaret Downs of New York City, as maid of honor.  The bridesmaids were Miss Naida Leo Brunner and Miss Frances Stretz. Robert T. Mable, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.  First Class Private James A. Fancher, U.S. Army, Walter E. Stanzel Jr., Capt. Wayne Frease, U.S.Army Air Forces and Ensign John R. Roberts, U.S.N.R., were the ushers. The former Miss Stanzel was dressed in a princess style gown of blush rose imported organza fashioned with rosepoint lace at the sweetheart neckline and a full skirt ending in a long train.  Her illusion veil fell from a tiara of heirloom rosepoint lace and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and bouvardia.  As her only jewelry she wore a heart shaped heirloom pin of seed pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.  The maid of honer and the bridesmaids were dressed alike in heavenly blue organza gowns with matching lace yokes and medallions on the bouffant skirts. They wore picture hats of the same color and edged in horsehair braid. They carried flower baskets made of sweetheart roses and elphiniums. The mother of the bride cose a mist blue crepe dress with matching accessories and she wore a corsage of pink orchids. The bridegroom's mother selected a gown of gray crepe accented with deep purple and her corsage was of purple orchids.  Following the ceremony a reception for 150 guests was held in the Art Gallery of the Arlington Hotel.  A three-tiered wedding cake flanked by snapdraggons and maiden hair fern centered the table. The couple left for a wedding trip to New York City. The bride is a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and an honorary member of Delta Kappa Sorority.  Lieutenant Mable was graduated from Lakemont Academy, Lakemont, N.J. and he received his commision at Foster Army Air Field, Tex.  At present he is stationed at Harding Army Air Field, Baton Rouge, La.

Dr. Dwight M. Lee
Died October 5, 1895 in Oxford, NY
Dr. Dwight M. Lee, a prominent citizen and leading physician of this village, died suddenly of heart disease at his home on Washington Park [Oxford, Chenango Co., NY] last Saturday, at about 7 o'clock, a.m.  Until the evening before his death he was apparently in his usual health and his demise coming so unexpectedly was a terrible blow to his family and friends, and his loss is deeply felt by the entire community.  The deceased was the son of Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Hiram Wise Lee, and was born fifty-two years ago the 25th of last January at Georgetown [Madison Co., NY].  He attended the Cincinnatus Academy and when but sixteen years of age entered Hamilton college at Clinton and there received the degree of Bachelor of Arts.  During the first years of the war he was attending lectures at the medical college connected with the University of the City of New York and the Albany Medical College and after completing his course at the last named institution in December 1864, he joined the twenty-second New York Volunteers Calvary as assistant surgeon.  In August, 1865, he was mustered out and located at Smithville Flats where for two years he practiced his profession, but not meeting with the success that he desired he came to this village in the spring of 1867 and has since been a resident of Oxford.  He was one of the best known physicians in the county and was frequently called in consultation with physicians of other towns.  He was a frequent attendant at medical associations and was a member of the Chenango County, Central New York and New York State medical societies, and was a member of the board of pension examiners of Chenango county in 1882-4.  He took an active interest in the affairs of the village and was several times elected president of the village, and has also held other offices of trust and responsibility.  For many years he has been a member of Oxford lodge F.&A.M. Oxford Lodge, R.A.M. and of the Norwich Commandery, K.T.  In 1866 he married Miss Elizabeth T Gleason who still survives him.  Three children, Charles D., Walter E. and Zada are also left to mourn his loss and the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to those afflicted ones. The funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday and consisted of a short service at the house with the Masonic service at the grave in Riverview cemetery [Oxford, NY].

Raymond W. Parsons
Bainbridge News, May 31, 1956
Raymond W. Parsons, of 37 Haendle Street, Binghamton [Broome Co., NY] died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday May 26, 1956, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital after a short illness.  He is survived by his wife, Hope I. Parsons; a daughter, Miss Clara Parsons, both of Binghamton; his father, Ben W. Parsons, of Oxford, and several cousins.  He was a member of Boulevard Methodist Church, Binghamton, Afton Lodge 360 F&AM, Vallonia Chapter 80, Royal Arch Masons, where he held the station of high priest in 1953.  The body was removed to the Karschner Funeral Home, Afton, where funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. the Rev. Melvin J. Dodd officiating.  Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY].  Mr. and Mrs. Parsons and daughter were former residents of Bainbridge.

James B. Hill
Died August 21, 1959 in Johnson City, NY
James B. Hill, 80, only surviving brother of Broome County Republican chairman William H. Hill, collapsed while walking in Main Street in Johnson City [Broome Co., NY] yesterday afternoon and was pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m. at Wilson Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Monday at the J.F Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main Street, Johnson City, with the Rev. Rolland J. Crompton of Hillcrest officiating.  A verdict of natural cause was issued by Coroner Glenn Tymeson of Lisle.  Mr. Hill was seen by a Johnson City Post Office employee as he collapsed on a sidewalk at Main and Balwin streets, near the entrance of First Baptist Church.  Johnson City police ambulance was called by the postal worker. The ambulance arrived at the hospital at 1:30 p.m.  Mr.  Hill, who lived at 27 Jenison Avenue, Johnson City, with his sister, Mrs. Bessie H. Fell, had gone out on a series of errands shortly before his collapse.  He was a frequent stroller in the village's business center.  He bore a strong resemblance to William H. Hill, 83, who is publisher of the Binghamton Sun as well as county GOP leader.  James Hill was the youngest of the six children of the late Rev. and Mrs. J. William Hill.  His brothers Joseph, Samuel, and George all are deceased.  Like the GOP county chairman, James hill attended Binghamton Central High School.  In his late teenage years he was employed by Endicott Johnson and became a foreman in the EJ Pioneer Factory.  He later joined a shoe firm in Brocton, Mass., and about 1925, went to England where he was superintendent of a shoe factory until shortly before World War 2, when he retired.  In addition to William H. Hill and Mrs. Fell he is survived by and four nephews and two nieces. They are Miss Dorothy Hill of Endicott and Richard Hill of Hillcrest, children of William H. Hill, and the late Joseph Hill's four children, Miss Doris Hill, Newell, James and William H. Hill, 2d, all of Binghamton.  Mr. Hill was a member of Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial Methodist church in Johnson City. Burial is to be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell [Broome Co., NY].

Lila Aldrich
Died November 4, 1942 in Vernon Center, NY
Mrs. Lila Aldrich, aged 71, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Maple Park Home, Vernon Center [Oneida Co. NY], after a long illness.  She is survived by her husband, Lester Aldrich, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Patton of Oneonta, two sons, William Aldrich of Seneca Falls, Marshal Aldrich of Washington, D.C., and one brother, Jesse Norton of Norwich.  The funeral will be held at The Maple Park Home at 1 p.m. Friday with burial in the White Store cemetery [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY].
Alice Belle Ainsworth
September 1, 1871 - April 8, 1959 (Preston, NY)
The death of Miss Alice Belle Ainsworth, a former resident here, occurred Saturday night following a long period of failing health.  The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ainsworth, she was born in New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], September 1, 1871.  Miss Ainsworth, who resided for several years in this city with the late Myrtle Edelman, was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of South New Berlin.  Her nearest survivor is a cousin, Mrs. Laura Gilcher of Syracuse.  Funeral services will be held from the Breese Funeral Home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.  Rev. D.G. DeBoer, pastor of the First Congregational church will officiate.  Burial will be made in South New Berlin.

Nellie A. Dyer
Died April 9, 1937 in Binghamton, NY
Mrs. Frank M. Dyer of 51 Main Street died at 9 o'clock Friday morning in the Binghamton City Hospital [Broome Co., NY] after a short illness.  She is survived by her husband, Dr. Frank M. Dyer; two sons, Howard S. Dyer of Binghamton and R. Stuart Dyer of Cornell Medical Center, New York City; one daughter, Dorothy Dyer of Binghamton; two brothers, Arthur W. Alexander of Binghamton and Wilber R. Alexander of Conklin Road; one sister, Mrs. H.I. Johnston of Binghamton. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at her home. The Rev. Wilson E. Tanner will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Frank L. DeMunn.

The funeral of Mrs. Frank M. Dyer was held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from her home, 51 Main Street.  The Rev. Wilson E. Tanner officiated.  The pallbearers were Dr. Charles M. Allaben, Dr. Perry Shaw, Dr. V.W. Bergstrom, Dr. George S. Lape, Charles Worden and George Young. Burial was in Floral Park Cemetery [Johnson City, Broome Co., NY].

Mrs. William Allen occurred at her home near Dimock Hollow Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 1912, at 3 o'clock.  She had been ill two or three weeks and her death was due to heart disease.  Her age was 63 years.  A husband and children survive.  Funeral will occur from the late home Saturday, at 1 o'clock.  [Melissa D.
