SNOW:  In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], June 16th, Mr. Henry Snow, aged 78 years.

Another aged citizen has gone from our midst.  Henry Snow, for sixty odd years a highly respected inhabitant of this town, died at the residence of his nephew, Walter M. Conkey, on Tuesday, the 14th, at the advanced aged of 78 years.  Mr. Snow with his widowed mother removed from Stonington, Conn., to this place, early in the present century, when the country was new and was directly identified with the growth and prosperity of the infant settlement, which he tried to see become a growing and prosperous village.  He here learned the carpenter's trade and subsequently carried on the cabinet business in connection with house building for a number of years.  For twenty-five years he was engaged with Abner Warner in the manufacture of carriages, the firm of Snow & Warner at once acquiring an enviable reputation, both on account of the excellence of their work and for their integrity, a reputation which has been well maintained by the surviving partner to this day.

Mr. Snow was strictly, proverbially honest, his word being considered as good as his bond.  We cannot better exemplify his probity and his uniformly mild disposition than in the words of him whose long intimate business and social relations give the right of authority to what he utters.

Mr. Warner, standing beside his coffined remains, with much feeling remarked:  "We have been partners for twenty-five years, and I cannot recall a single instance when there was the least misunderstanding or when a single unkind word ever passed between us."

This is saying much for human nature, especially as we find it now a days, yet from what we know of Mr. Warner and know of the deceased, we can readily give full credence to the expression. Always quiet and unobtrusive, the last years of Mr. Snow have been mostly passed within a circle of his friends and a few acquaintances, remarkably free from ostentation or show.  He was younger by some four years than his brother Capt. William Snow, who died about twelve months since.  Neither had ever married.  The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon.

Fatal Casualty at Lyon Brook Bridge

A shocking accident occurred on the morning of the 10th inst. at Lyon Brook Bridge, now in process of construction by the Midland Railroad Company, about three miles above Oxford, resulting in the immediate death of Bartholomew Walsh a laborer employed upon the work.

Walsh, with others, was upon the "false work," engaged in moving a heavy iron column upon a carriage - which, by one wheel striking the end of a plank, was upset - precipitating the unfortunate workman, who was guiding the carriage by means of the column, some sixty feet below.  In his descent he made one or two somersaults, striking backward upon a pile of rocks, of course killing him instantly.

Deceased was about 25 years of age, recently from Buffalo, where his father resides and where he married his wife a short time since.  He has been engaged upon the works some two months, and is spoken of as a very faithful and efficient hand.

Thus has passed away a venerable and amiable disciple of Christ, at a period of life beyond the extended limit allotted by the Psalmist as the extreme boundry of life.  And to her in a remarkable degree was granted the privilege almost to the last of exemption from that labor and sorrow which the Holy Writer has asserted as the heritage of fourscore years.  Possessed of a kind and gentle and wonderfully equabid disposition, full of hope and cheerfulness, beloved by all who knew her, and lamented by a wide circle of relatives and friends, this aged Christian pilgrim has reached the end of her journey and is at rest.  She had been spared through a long life of good health to do her work in her quiet way, to fulfill all the offices of love and friendship acceptably and to pass away to perfect submission and peace, leaning on that arm which never fails those who trust it as they enter the shadows of the dark valley.  As the festival of Christmas draws near, she will be missed in her place in the Sanctuary of our Zion, and at the Altar of her Lord, but she has entered a temple where Festivals of joy and love are the increasing employ of blessed and ransomed worshippers.
