Deaths

In Coventry [Chenango Co., NY], on the 4th inst. Mrs. Electa Beardslee, wife of Stilson Beardsley, deceased, aged 71 years.

In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on the 27th ult. Mr. Jas. S. McCalpin, aged 67 years.

In Guilford [Chenango Co., NY], on the 4th inst. Miss Augusta H. [Breed], daughter of Abel Breed, aged 16 years and 6 months.

In Preston [Chenango Co., NY], on the 20th inst., Mrs. Abigail Fox, aged 97 years.

Last Thursday forenoon, two children of Mr. Wm. Johnson, living a short distance from Oneida Castle, went to play in a barn owned by Lorenzo Catrmel.  The little fellows had taken matches with them, and the younger of the two, about six years of age, set fire to some shavings.  Becoming frightened at the magnitude of the bonfire, the older boy left the barn while the younger secreted himself in the hay. the former was so frightened that he did not give notice of the fire until it had attained such headway as to render it impossible to save the child, and he was burned to death.
