Deaths

In this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 17th inst., Mrs. Eliza Closson, aged 74 years and 8 months.  This departed believer was called to endure keen and protracted suffering through months of the later period of her life, demanding the exercise of patience, fortitude and resignation to the Divine Will.  Through many years she was a stranger to health, although a constitution of wonderful tenacity even in the midst of many infirmities gave her a strong hold of life.  Her mind was clear and practical in its judgments, strong in intellectual tastes and tendencies.  She delighted in reading works of taste and merit, and her power of analysis of the authors read was clear, sound, discriminating.  Shut out by imperfect hearing from much of the interchanges of society, she found an ever-ready resource for leisure hours in the walks of Literature.  As a Christian she had an humble view of herself and clung with faith to the strong foundations of the plan of Redeeming grace, delighting in the visits of her Pastor and grateful for all his ministrations at her couch of suffering.  deeply thankful too was she for all the faithful services rendered in a long sickness by those dearest to her, as well as by willing friends not of the household circle.  Very slowly did the seemingly frail tabernacle of flesh yield to the power of the Waster.  But the end came to her in peace, and she awaits, we doubt not, in the Paradise of the Blessed the "perfect consummation and bliss both in body and soul in Christ's eternal kingdom, of Glory."

In this town [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 11th inst. James Henry [Bingham], youngest son of Wm. Henry and Margaret E. Bingham, aged 1 year and 7 months.
