Death
Died at Aurora (Cayuga Couty) [NY] on the 26th ult after an illness of about six months of the pulmonary consumption, Truman Smith, Esq. attorney at law, late of Buffalo, county of Niagara [NY] aged 23 years. On the 28th ult. his funeral was attended and a solemn and pathetic discourse was delivered on the occasion by the Rev. Mr. Woodruff' after which with every suitable mark of respect for his memory, his body was committed to the silent grave & thus, in the gay morn of life, a most promising and amiable young man is arrested by the cold hand of death, and has forever bid adieu to all the transitory scenes of this mortal life, never more to participate in its joys or sorrows! He possessed a generous and a feeling heart, a sound mind, cultivated by a good education, which was accompanied by all the lesser virtues. These rendered him truly amiable and dear to all his numerous friends and acquaintance, who, by this event, feel terribly and deeply afflicted at the loss which they and the community sustain by a death so premature.

Sad Accident - Drowned at Oriskany Falls
As we go to press, we learn that a sad accident occurred at Oriskany Falls [Oneida Co. NY] last Tuesday, which resulted in the sudden death of Earle Morgan a bright, intelligent boy [aged about 5 years], and the eldest son of Herman Morgan. Deceased was generally loved for his many amiable qualities and his death will be mourned by all who knew him. Below will be found the particulars of his death.
On attempting to cross the Oriskany creek on a plank a short distance above the falls, he lost his balance, fell in the swollen stream and was carried over the falls, some thirty rods below, where the dam to Hicks' woolen factory crosses the stream. He was rescued from the water within two or three minutes after falling in and every effort was made to bring him to life, but in vain. It is supposed that his death resulted from injuries received by being swept over the rocks.
