Sidney [Delaware Co., NY]:  Miss Betty Kent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kent, went to Ithaca Sunday where she has entered Ithaca college of Music.  Miss Kent graduated from Sidney high school in June, where she played the saxophone in the school orchestra.  She also played piano for the orchestra.  [1941]

County Students Win Five Scholarships

The state education department today made public the name of 750 June high school graduates who have won university scholarships.  Each year there are awarded to the pupils of each county five times as many scholarships as there are assembly districts in the county.  In the event any one of the winners should decline the scholarships it is immediately offered to the next eligible candidate on the county list.  Holder of one of these scholarships will be entitled to one hundred dollars a year for the four years of his college course while attending any college approved by the regents for the purpose.  Winners for Chenango County are:  Dorothy J. Teachout, 94, of this village leading with the highest average in the county; Ruth J. Hagen, 93.62, second, of Cincinnatus; Frank K. Faulkner, 92.52, third, of Afton, R.D. 2; Grace Drachler, 92.09, fourth, of Greene; and Vernon R. Palmer, 91.71 fifth, also of this village, R.D.3.
