Marriages (May 12)

Sunday evening at 9 o'clock occurred the marriage of Miss Anna Reede, daughter of Justice and Mrs. Ray Reede, of Rockdale [Chenango Co., NY], to Stanley Breward, of 78 Prospect street, Binghamton [Broome Co., NY].  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J.W. Bump and took place at the Pillars.  They were attended by Mrs. Gertrude Bump and C. Curtis.  The bride is one of the popular young ladies of Mt. Upton and a graduate of Unadilla Central School.  The groom is a graduate of Mt. Upton Central School and holds a position as quotation clerk in the City of Binghamton.  Heartiest congratulations are extended to them.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Sept. 26, 1940]
 
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Glover were very pleasantly surprised Sunday evening at a party held in their honor.  Twenty-seven friends met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Buiten on School street. Games were played, music enjoyed, and delicious refreshments served.  Mr. and Mrs. Glover were presented with a beautiful floor lamp with indirect lighting.  The party was in honor of their recent marriage.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Sept. 26, 1940]
 
Saturday afternoon, September 21, at East Guilford [Chenango Co., NY], occurred the marriage of Alma Faigle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Faigle, to Howard Osborn, son of Mrs. Edna Church, also of East Guilford.  The ceremony was performed by their pastor, the Rev. Ralph B. Gamewell, of the Center and East Guilford Presbyterian Churches.  The attending couple were Ann and Wendell Bachman, of Unadilla.  The bride is an inspector in the Scintilla Corp. and the groom a clerk.  Congratulations are extended to them by their many friends.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Sept. 26, 1940]
 
Miss Agnes Almeda Bennett, of this village and daughter of Lee Bennett, of Greene [Chenango Co., NY], was united in marriage to Edward Gliha, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], the son of Mrs. Louise Gliha, of Forest City, Pa., Saturday evening, October 5, at 6 o'clock in the Presbyterian Church, Guilford Center.  The Rev. Bump performed the ceremony.  The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bly, of Bainbridge.  After the ceremony a dinner was served at Rock Inn, Rockdale.  Mr. Gliha is a graduate of Forest City High School, Forest City, Pa., and Stroudsburg State Teachers' College.  The popular young baseball player taught school for three years before securing his present position at the Resin plant.  Mr. and Mrs. Gliha will reside on Tyler street.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Oct. 10, 1940]
 
The marriage of Miss June L. DeGrand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John DeGrand, of Gloversville [Fulton Co., NY], to Roger Merritt, of Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur R. Merritt, of Highland [Ulster Co., NY], will take place in the First Methodist Episcopal Church at Gloversville, Saturday morning, October 19, 1940, at 10:30 o'clock.  Miss DeGrand is a graduate of Oneonta Normal and is a member of the faculty at Oppenheim.  Mr. Merritt graduated from Highland High School and Braydon Hall and is a State Trooper, stationed at Troop C Barracks, Sidney.  They will reside at 23 Smith street, Sidney.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Oct. 17, 1940]

Miss Dorothy Winona Hendricks, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hendricks, of Unadilla [Otseog Co., NY], and Hudson L. Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Perry, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], were married at the Baptist parsonage, October 9 by the Rev. R. Lewis Johnson, pastor of the Bainbridge Baptist Church.  The couple were attended by Miss Adelaide DeForest and William Hendricks, brother of the bride, both of Unadilla.  Mrs. Perry is a graduate of the Unadilla Central School class of '39.  Mr. and Mrs. Perry will reside on their farm at Bainbridge after November 1.  Mr. Perry is employed in the Scintilla plant at Sidney.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Oct. 17, 1940]

On Monday, October 7, occurred the marriage of Miss Marie Carter daughter of Mrs. Hazel Fellows, of Guilford [Chenango Co., NY], to Albert Oliver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Oliver, of Center Lisle [Broome Co., NY].  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Floyd E. Terwilliger in the manse of the congregational Church at Lisle. The attending couple was Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vought, sister of the groom. The bride is one of Guilford's popular young ladies.
