Marriages (October 12)

Miss Alice Parsons, daughter of the late John D. Parsons, was married at 4 o'clock this afternoon, at her home "Happy Hill" two miles above Bainbridge village [Chenango Co., NY], to Chester F. Waters of Mt. Upton [Chenango Co., NY].  Rev. A.H. Grant performed the ceremony.  A large company of friends was present at the wedding.  Mr and Mrs. Waters will reside in Mt. Upton where the bridegroom holds the position of book-keeper in the Borden condenser.  [Oct. 10, 1900]

Rev. E.G. Bowers, the recent rector of the Episcopal Church in this village, and Miss Sarah Moe, of Jersey City [NJ], were married at the home of the bride on Monday evening, Dec. 31, Deposit [Broome Co., NY] extends congratulations [1900]

The following wedding notice from the Glens Falls Morning Star, of June 5, will interest all our Bainbridge readers:  Charlotte Aurelia, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hyler White, and Sterling Frederick Higley were married yesterday noon at the home of the bride's parents, 54 Warren street, Rev. Alexander H. Grant, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal church, Bainbridge, officiating, assisted by Rev John R. Mackay, pastor of the Presbyterian church.  The parlors, library and dining room were handsomely decorated with palms and ferns, with bits of white.  Under a bower of bridal wreaths and palms in the east parlor the ceremony as performed.  To the strains of the Lohengrin wedding march the wedding party left the library, being met in the back parlor by Charles C. McNitt, of Oneonta, and C. Herbert Everest, who with Miss Mabel Rogers, of Plattsburg, and Miss Lillian K. Wendell, the bridesmaid, held the ribbons opening the way.  Miss May Elizabeth Higley, of Bay Shore, L.I., sister of the groom, who was the maid of honor, followed, preceding the bride, who was accompanied by her father.  After them came Clifford H. Allen and Adelbert  H. Sprague, the other ushers.  The bride was met in the parlor by the bridegroom and his best man, Clifford R. Morris, of Oneonta.  The bride was beautiful in a gown of white satin trimmed with point lace cut entrain.  She wore a veil and carried lilies of the valley.  She also wore a necklace of brook pearls, the gift from the groom.  Miss Higley wore white silk mull over pink silk, her gown being trimmed with white satin ribbons.  She carried pink roses.  The bridesmaids gowns were of white silk mull over white silk with lace trimmings.  The bridesmaids wore white tulle pompons and carried bride's roses.  A reception and wedding breakfast followed and the wedding party and relatives were served in the dining room and on the side piazza, which was enclosed. The dining room, as well as the house throughout, was darkened and lighted by scones. The table decorations were of asparagus vine and smilax, the center piece being a large basket of pink roses tied with pink ribbon. Mr. and Mrs.  Higley left on the 2:10 train on a wedding trip of about ten days.  The bride's going away gown was of black, with silk eton jacket and fancy silk waist, with hat of white straw trimmed with black and white silk.  The attendants of the bride were remembered by her with handsome silver bell buckles, gray finish, and the ushers received from the groom silver mounted card cases.  The music was furnished by Gloscia's Orchestra of Albany, the floral decorations were by Crandall, and Mrs. Conway was the caterer.  upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Higley will make their home for the summer with the bride's parents.  [1901]

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Chamberlin, of Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY], announce the engagement of their daughter, Alice Eleanor, to Borden Jenners Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Smith, of Johnstown [Fulton Co., NY].  Miss Chamberlin is a graduate of the Unadilla Central School and the College of Home Economics at Cornell University.  She is now employed as an institutional dietician in Newark, N.J.  Mr. Smith attended Green Mountain Junior College and Cornell University.  He is now with the General Electric Company in Bloomfield, N.J.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, August 5, 1943]

Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Johnson, of Johnson City [Broome Co., NY], announce the engagement of their daughter, Helen Louise, to Philip F. Monrian, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Monrian, of Glens Falls [Warren Co., NY].  No date has been set for the wedding.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Aug. 5, 1943]

Invitations have been received here [Sidney, Delaware Co., NY], for the wedding, Aug. 7, of Miss Kathryn Burch, of Grahamsville [Sullivan Co., NY], and Robert F. Thompson, of Delhi [Delaware Co., NY].  Miss Burch was formerly employed in the Scintilla offices.  Both youg people are graduates of the Delhi Agricultural School.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Aug. 5, 1943]

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crawford, of Grand Gorge [Delaware Co., NY], former residents of Unadilla, announce the engagement of their daughter, Evelyn, to Ray Cottone, son of Ross Cottone, of Grand Gorge.  The marriage will take place in the near future.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Aug. 5, 1943]
