Clara E. Burdick

Miss Clara E. Burdick

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  On Saturday morning of last week, at her home in East Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], occurred the death of Clara E. Burdick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Burdick.  She was born in East Norwich 27 years ago and after a course of study in the Norwich High School attended the Albany Business College, graduating about eight years ago.  She accepted employment as a stenographer in Amsterdam, N.Y. afterwards to find similar employment in the office of Attorney William H. Sullivan.  During the last two years she had been stenographer in the office of David Maydole Hammer Company.  As a student she was eager to learn and ambitious to prepare herself for a place of usefulness.  She was ever efficient and conscientious in her work and earned the highest appreciation and respect of all whom she served.  She battled bravely and heroically with disease and gave up her position only when compelled to do so, a few weeks before her death. She had many warm friends who admired her excellent qualities and by whom she will be greatly missed.  She is survived by her parents and by four brothers and one sister, Calvin G. Burdick, of New Britain, Conn., Herbert Burdick, Walter E. and Paul and Hattie M. Burdick, of Norwich.  Funeral services were held from her late home in East Norwich on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Rev. Wilson Treible officiating.  Interment was made in the family plot at East Norwich.
 
Mary C. (Van Orsdale) Edwards

Mrs. Mary C Edwards, of Windsor [Broome Co., NY], R.D.1, died Thursday at the home of her son, Kenneth Edwards, in Damascus.  She was 72 years old on Jan. 18, 1944.  Widow of the late James A. Edwards, who died Sept. 6, 1933, she was born in Hartford, Pa., the daughter of Marcus and Cornelia Whitney VanOrsdale. She is also survived by three other sons, Orio Edwards, of Windsor, Ross Edwards, of Walton, and John Edwards, a war prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Carson, of Deposit; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Warner, of Susquehanna, Pa., R.D.2; a brother, A.E. VanOrsdale, of Ashley, Pa.; several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Sunday, Nov. 5, at the C.E. Wood Chapel, in Windsor, with the Rev. C.L. Holmes, pastor of the Windsor Presbyterian Church, officiating. The Woman's Relief Corps attended in a body and conducted their memorial service under the direction of their president, Mrs. Gertrude Bond, with Mrs. Lucille Eagan as reader and Miss Dena Mallery as chaplain.
 
Porter Kinch

Porter Kinch, life-long resident of Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], and one of the oldest business men in point of service to that community, passed away on Wednesday of last week in the Sidney Hospital.  Mr. Kinch had been in ill health for quite some time and had been a patient in a Binghamton hospital for some time.  He returned to his home in Sidney and from there was taken to the Sidney institution.  Mr. Kinch was for many years a cattle dealer and butcher, conducting a market in Sidney.  He was born in Sidney, Sept. 17, 1866, the son of James and Mary (Mott) Kinch.  His wife passed away in September of last year.  Survivors include a brother, Clark Kinch, of Masonville; two sisters, Mrs. C.N. Stevener and Mrs. C.L. Palmer, both of Albany; a step-son, George KInch, of Sidney, and a step-daughter, Mrs. J.A. Spencer, of Binghamton; two nieces, Mrs. Ruth Greek and Mrs. Guy Gray. Services in charge of the Rev. Wilton Dubrick, of the Sidney Methodist Church, were conducted at the Carr & Landers Funeral Parlors on Saturday afternoon.  Interment was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery [Sidney, NY].
 
Jacob M. Radeker

Jacob M. Radeker, a resident of Walton [Delaware Co., NY] for the past 28 years, died of a heart attack at his home in that village, Monday morning, Nov. 6.  He was 66 years of age.  Mr. Radeker was born in the town of Colchester, July 13, 1878.  He resided there until 28 years ago when he went to Walton to help operate the new Breakstone plant there.  At the time of his death he had worked for the Breakstone company for 28 years.  Mr. Radeker was a veteran of the Spanish-American War in Company L., 28th Regiment, from Harrisburg, Pa., and spent two years in the Philippine Islands as a member of that outfit.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wards Spanish-American War Veterans and Ben Marvin Post.  He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon H. Doody, Norwich, Mrs. Henry Hafele, Sidney Center, and Mrs. George Perkins, Syracuse; three sons, Barney, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, Lauren at Big Springs, Texas and Bernard W., at home; and one sister  Mrs. Caroline Warren, od Downsville.  A military funeral in charge of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was held at his late home Friday, Nov. 10, the Rev. H.G. Lincoln officiating.  Burial was in the Walton cemetery.
 
John Isler

John Isler, 56, of Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], died at his home Sunday morning of last week after an illness of three weeks with heart trouble  He was a patient at Sidney Hospital when first taken ill, but returned to his home several days ago. The funeral was held Wednesday at Hoboken, N.J.  The body will be cremated.  Mr. Isler was born in Hoboken May 21, 1888.  He went to Sidney where he was employed in the Kayser silk mill, returning to the Hoboken some 20 years ago and resided in that city and Westwood, N.J., until about four years ago when he returned to Sidney, where he was an accountant at the Scintilla.  Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Anne R.C. Kleen; two sons, Cpl. Edward Isler, of England, and Robert Isler, a teacher in Lyons Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph N. Herring and Miss Anna Isler, New York, and Mrs. John Thornton, Sidney.
 
John Kniffen Tyler

John Kniffin Tyler, aged nearly 84, passed away Saturday morning at the Margaretville hospital, where he had been a patient for several days.  Funeral services were held Monday at the Gorsch Funeral Home, with burial in the Roxbury Cemetery [Delaware Co., NY].  Mr Tyler was a lifelong resident of Roxbury, where he was born Nov. 24, 1860, the son of Irving and mary Jane Kniffin Tyler.  He always followed the occupation of farmer.  He was twice married, his first wife, Angelina Lynch.  They were married Oct. 15, 1884, and she died many years ago.  He is survived by six children of his first marriage and two sons by his second marriage.
 
Nettie M.K. Stratton

Mrs. Nettie M.K. Stratton, 64 Windsor [Broome Co., NY], died last week Wednesday at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.  She is survived by her husband Lafayette E.; a sister, Mrs. Maurice Blair, of Port Dickinson; a niece and four nephews. The body was removed to the chapel of Clinton F. Wood in Windsor.  The O.E.S. Chapter conducted a memorial service Friday evening at her home. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Zion Episcopal Church. The Rev. James F. Root officiated.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
