Mamie (Harris) Leonard

Mamie (Harris) Leonard

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  At her home on Turner street on Friday morning of last week occurred the death of Mrs. Mamie Harris, wife of Cory L. Leonard, leaving a little babe born about a week before.  The mother was about 24 years of age and was the daughter of J.H. Harris, of Towanda Pa.  Deceased was born in Burlington, Bradford county, Pa.  Mr. and Mrs. Leonard have lived in Norwich for about a year, he being employed in the Maydole hammer factory.  His sad affliction has aroused the sympathy of all acquainted with the circumstances.  Other surviving relatives are a brother and four sisters, three of whom reside in the west and one in Towanda, Pa.  Deceased was a cousin Jerome H. Lewis and a sister-in-law of R.F. Leonard, of this village.  Funeral services were held from the Broad Street M.E. Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. Wilson Treible officiating.  The remains were placed temporarily in Mount Hope Cemetery [Norwich, NY] vault awaiting interment.
 
Henry Cook

A man named Henry Cook was killed by the morning express just below Unadilla [Otsego Co., NY], on Wednesday.  It appears that he was driving across the track at the crossing on the farm of Mr. John L. Wiesmer, for whom he has worked a great many years, when the train struck the wagon and killed him.  The body was found on the pilot of the engine.  The horse was uninjured but the wagon was broken to pieces.  Mr. Cook was a native of Germany, about 70 years old, and has lived with Mr. Wiesmer many years.  He is not married.  He has a brother and other relatives in New Jersey.

Elizabeth A. (Gilbert) Tripp
1857 - 1902
Elizabeth A. wife of Byron J. Tripp of Bennettsville [Chenango Co., NY], died at their home at that village Saturday night aged forty-five years.  The immediate cause of death was aortic gurgitation.  Mrs. Trip[p was a patient sufferer for a number of years as the result of La Grippe, and was a kindly industrious wife and pleasant neighbor respected by all who knew her.  Her husband with whom she had spent eleven years of loving companionship survives her.  The funeral services were held at the home in Bennettsville Tuesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. C. Reed of this village who was assisted by the Rev. A.L. Holmes of Masonville.  The attendance was very large attesting love and sorrow for the deceased.  The interment was at East Guilford where the deceased was very lovingly remembered as Miss Elizabeth Gilbert.  Ramsdell & Son had charge of the obsequies.

Samuel S. Bennett
1828 - 1907
The funeral of Samuel S. Bennett was held Friday from the home of his son, Marvin D. Bennett on Avery street.  Mr. Bennett came to Sidney with his wife from Guilford Center to reside with his dau. and Mrs. Bennett died seven weeks before the death of her husband, Tuesday.  He is survived by his son, two brothers and a sister.  Burial was in the cemetery at Rogers Hollow.  [d. Feb. 20, 1907]

Herbert J. Saunders
1843 - 1909
Herbert J. Saunders, a resident of this village for many years died at his home on Upper Page Brook [Broome Co., NY] suddenly Tuesday night July 13, 1909.  After dinner Tuesday he requested his wife to go with him to the hayfield as he didn't feel well.  He grew worse and they were obliged to return to the house.  Mrs. Saunders telephoned for Dr. Chapin of Greene and he arrived promply, but Mr. Saunders was past all help.  He passed away immediately after the doctor's arrival at about 8 p.m.and Dr. Chapin pronounced his trouble neuralgia of the heart.  His age was 66 years.  He is survived by his wife and little daughter, Bernice, also a son, Leland, and a daughter Mrs. Ernest Mudge by a former marriage.  The body was brough here for burial in Riverview cemetery [Oxford, Chenango Co., NY] Saturday.  During his residence here Mr. Saunders held the office of Overseer of the Poor one or two terms.  Deceased was a veteran of the Civil War enlisting in Co. A 11th Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers January 4, 1864. 

Mrs. Herbert Saunders
1878 - 1909
Upper Page Brook [Broome Co., NY]:  The death of Mrs. Herbert Saunders occurred Thursday, she only surviving her husband by three months.  Mrs. Saunders was thirty-one years of age and died of pneumonia.  She was married to Mr. Saunders about nine years ago.  Her home previous to that time was in Bainbridge. They lived in this village for a few years, removing to Vestal, and about three years ago, removing to Upper Page Brook.  She is survived by one daughter, Bernice, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Edith Mudge of Peru, Clinton county, and one son, Leon Saunders, of Schenectady, and one brother, who resides in Bainbridge.  Mrs. Saunders has been correspondent for the Times since the time of taking up her residence at Upper Page Brook.  The funeral was held Saturday, and interment was made in Riverview cemetery in this village [Oxford, Chenango Co., NY], Ray A.O. Austin conducting services at the grave.
